How much notice?

I let my DD8's teacher know on the 1st. day of school. I filled out the necessary paperwork. This trip is a surprise for my DD. I wrote him a note-requesting her work on the day we leave---also that it's a surprise. I have never had a problem taking her out for family vacations.

My kids school requires two weeks notice, as I had to pull out the handbook to prepare for our trip in 15 days! I actually just got finished writing the notes, and now have my fingers crossed that we will not get a difficult time. My DD is in second grade and my DS is in 7th grade.
