How much more is your 2013-2014 vacation costing?

Last year I got an exceptionally good dead for a deluxe stay, with free DP / upgraded to a discount DDP.

This year , same dates, same DP, no discounts, a whopping 2000.00 more. The actual trip is 1500.00 more but add in another 500.00 to compensate for the lack of DDP.

Thank goodness I have been charging everything , including bills through my. Disney Visa .

By funneling everything through the card I should have 800-1000 by November.

Ours was about $3000 for me DH and DS who was 4. We went in February and stayed 6 nights at Contemporary. Tickets for 5 days. No water parks. No hoppers. No dining plan. We get free airfare and had lots of gift cards for meals and souvenirs.

Not doing Disney this year.

We are going to the beach with my family next week. I figure my OOP for me and the two boys will be about $800 (gas both ways, part of the food, 2 nights at a cheap motel). Dad rented the beach house, so it's a good deal for us.

As a family, the four of us will go to Williamsburg in July. I figure about $1500 (gas both ways, $500-600 for tickets, food for a week). We used my parents' Wyndham points for the condo.

It's probably not a fair comparison for me.

Last year my daughter (age 22) and I flew to MCO using FF miles. We stayed with my brother in his DVC villa and he refused to accept any compensation for it. We used leftover no-expiry tickets and the balances from GCs that I had earned from rewards programs and from my Disney Visa. My OOP costs were very low.

This year, my husband and I are using our own DVC points to stay in a 2-bedroom villa, taking my sister and BIL as our guests. We bought the DVC member PAP special back in November 2012 and will activate those when we get to Disney in September. I have about $300 in Disney Visa rewards dollars saved since last year and I purchased about $1300 in Disney GCs using the Target REDCard & Pharmacy rewards discounts. I'll buy the TiW card and pay OOP for all meals using those GCs. We are still using FF miles to get to MCO and we will use CC rewards points from our business credit card to rent a car at the Dolphin.

If you consider the thousands spent on the DVC contracts and dues, the entire cost of the TiW and PAPs and what I have spent on Disney GCs (my sister will reimburse me for her half), this is one very expensive vacation. But if you were to cost-average the DVC membership & dues over the life of the contracts, divide the cost of the PAPs over the course of a year with multiple visits and then factor in about half of the GCs going towards our own dining, then it's a more affordable trip.

However, it still would not approach the low price of last year's trip. That trip was extremely easy on my pocketbook!

I think ours will be an additional $500-$600. With the loss of adults getting the YES prices, the extra cost is all in ticket prices.

Disney trips, or any vacation?

Last year, we didn't take a vacation, so this trip will be about $1,200 more.

Comparing our last Disney trip to this one, it will be considerably cheaper. Our last trip was two weeks at Pop Century for four adults, with about 7 sit-down meals, plus some quick service, 10 day hoppers with wp&m. Total: $6,000.

This Disney trip is only 5 days for four adults, tent camping at Ft. Wilderness, eating from the cooler for the most part, with two day base tickets and wp&m. The entire Disney portion of our trip is paid for with rewards. We are adding another 3 days at Universal and that will cost us $600 for the tickets, hotel is free with blue sky rewards. I estimate another $600 for our groceries and gas.

The first part of our trip will be much cheaper then our second part! We are driving down and staying at AKV 2 bedroom savannah view. Using RCI we are paying 357 for the week! Can't get better then that! We have tickets from past trips so we are doing 2 days at the world, and 2 days at universal, going to DD and relaxing. We plan on doing breakfast in the room every day too! The second week we are sailing on The Fantasy. That part of the trip will be costlier!! Around 6k. But if I balance out the two weeks, it comes our pretty good!! LOL...

We are thinkn last week of feb into march. 10days wl. Hoping its bout the same as this years akl with the same set up. Keeping fingers crossed for discounts. Package was $8000 then with SPD it was $6000.
I am however thinking bout goin from tues-fri instead of wed-sat to save on that friday room rate.

Last year free dining started the Thursday before fall break, we took our son out of school around 2:00 since the rest of his day was study hall anyway and drove to Disney. We had bought YES tickets, then booked the package, total cost was just over $2100, but we brought back 3 unused 2 day passes.

This year free dining starts on Wednesday, can't do that with school, 2 1/2 days is too much to miss now that he is in high school. No room discounts has forced us into a $299 Skyauction condo. We'll use the tickets from 2012 and some from the early 2000s, so ticket cost is 0. Add gas, parking, food, and we're barely over 1K for a week.

If they extended free dining from Oct 2 to 3, then we would go back onsite in a heartbeat.

This trip April was 2k + more ( spring break instead of Labor Day) 10% Disney increases 80% timing and 10% splurging for dd1s 1 st trip.


Also going in July which will be cheaper solely due to off site. Air is still way up about double.

Sept will be about about 600$ more . ( and shorter). Though if I cannot find better air... It will get much cheaper when I rent my dvc instead of going

And I have just cancelled my dec trip today due to air fare being to out of line n not willing to drive. it would have been nearly 2k for air alone.

I love Disney... But I cannot justify some prices.

This trip will be actually pretty reasonable since we bought an annual pass and a non-expiration pass last year before our wedding/honeymoon. We're two adults going Sept. 19th - Sept. 29th. 7 days at Disney parks, 1 day at Universal, and 1 day at Sea World. Our last trip was fairly expensive due to it being our wedding/honeymoon.

Rented points to stay in a BLT studio for 7 nights: $1,100

Half of the AP and half of the 10 day non-expiry ticket: $600

We bought a TIW card last trip so with getting 20% off our meals and buying 5% off gift cards from Target, I usually overbudget at $100 a day for us (though we typically spend $75-$80 a day, which will be even lower at 25% off). We do two TS meals a day at Disney, but typically just CS at Universal and Sea World: $1,000 for ten days

3 nights at Wyndham Bonnet Creek: Free from parents

Flights: Free from Southwest points (ok, $69 for the annual fee)

We have Sea World annual passes (I don't really factor this in as we go to Busch Gardens Williamsburg/Water Country all the time so we get lots of uses out of our Platinum passes) and a day left on a pass to Universal.

My parents are going too and are driving so they'll be our transportation outside of Disney

We don't buy souvenirs, but I budget $150 for misc. stuff.

$70 for airport parking.

And the biggest budget buster: $800-$1,000 to board three dogs for 10 nights. They could stay at a room in BLT for that price!

Oh, and two tickets to the Halloween party : approx. $120.

Disney total: $2,820
Transportation/Other stuff: $1,289
Total: $4,109

That's almost always overbudgeting by about $300. Plus, we'll have about $150 on our Disney Rewards card.

My mom and I are going for a girl's trip. Our breakdown:

ASMu for 8 nights, free dining (upgraded to Table Service), 5 day tickets with Hopper, travel insurance: $1791.63

Bought Southwest points so that both of our flights are Rapid Rewards: $150

Charge fees for using points to book: $10

Dog boarding: $837
Cat sitting: $40

Public bus to/from airport: $16
Airport meals/bag handling tips/Mousekeeping/Gratuity at WDW: $270

Total: $3099
Which, honestly, is awesome.


Compare that to last year, same two gals, same hotel, same week... but we paid for dining out of pocket: $4010. Big difference!

We are going in August. Not your "typical" Disney vacation, though (ours rarely are....we like to explore beyond the Disney boundaries).

Airfare for 3 (non-stops both directions from Syracuse, NY via JetBlue, so includes baggage, seat selection, snacks, etc.) and 8 nights in a two bedroom, two bathroom villa at Sheraton Vistana Resort = $2050

3 Disney waterpark annual passes = $320

SUV rental through National for duration of stay = $245

Gas and parking = $100 (an estimate, probably will be far more than we need)

Trip cancellation, interruption & emergency medical = $0
(one of the benefits included as part of my Visa annual fee, which was waived by our bank for the first year )

Budgeted amount for "other" attractions (to be determined while we're there): $300

Park & fly hotel, including parking fees until we return: $80

Food and snacks, including two character meals: $1245 (we always WAY over-budget here.....will likely bring back a tidy sum)

Total: $4340 (two adults and a teenager)

Our's will probably be about the same. Although we will be paying half of what we paid last year in resorts bc we rented points this year for BLT instead of FW cabin, we will be paying more of our meals this year (parents bought some meals) and I have to buy tickets for DS and I bc we used them up in our january trip.

Last year I did a 5 night July WDW trip staying GF RPC, a 7 night October WDW trip staying YC/BWI CL and then a 10 nigh December WDW trip staying BWI CL. Additionally, I spent 10 nights in South and Central America in March and 7 nights at Aulani in September.

No matter what I spend this year, it is guaranteed to be less than last year.

Last year's Disney trip in August, was $1850 for 6 nights and 7 days at All-Star Movies, with MYW tickets for 7 days and FD, for 4 adults and a 2 year old. This year we are going in September, staying at All-Star Sports for 5 nights and 6 days with same tickets and FD, but for 2 adults and a 4 year old. This coming trip is $1450. This year we are staying 1 less night and have a child instead of adult along with 1 less adult and the price difference is only $400. We may still add an extra day as 5 nights and 6 days just doesn't seem like enough!

We're in the same place. All the rest of the costs are nearly identical, but our YES tickets are about $550 more. Still $350 less than the gate though.

Awww thanks we've "postponed" 3 times now...I think we are seriously going to shelve the plans until 2020. Sounds really far (and it is ) but like the shelf life of a Twinkie, WDW isn't going anywhere. Hopefully the Star Wars Land and Cars Land rumors are true and by then will be done!
