I am just thinking of perhaps doing a road trip to Disneyland next year. So, we would be doing other stuff, and Disney would be our goal. How much money should I be looking at for Disneyland? I guess what I am asking is...

How much for parks, 2 adults 2 kids.

Is 1 day enough to do MK there? I don't know if I want to do 2 days there, or should we do 1 day there and 1 day of California Adventure?

I know when we travel to WDW I should expect anywhere from 3000-5000. ANY guess as to how much money I should look at for Disneyland.

I need to know so I can convince DH!;)

I don't think one day is enough to do everything at Disneyland. You need 2 days minimum for that park and 1 day at California Adventure, IMO.

<font color=navy>You can get a 2-day park hopper for both DL & CA, and then pick the must-dos, nice-to-dos, and okay-to-skips for each park before you go so you don't stress out trying to see & do too much.

Remember that you don't need to stay "on-property" at Disneyland. There are the 3 Disney hotels. But the "off-site" hotels are as close or closer than those. At WDW, it really adds to the magic and the ability to get around to stay on-property. OK - staying at one of the Disney hotels will add to the magic (I love the Grand Californian!) but it may not be worth the money, with motels across the street from the maingate. Downtown Disney is in between Disneyland & DCA - so it's very convenient too.
There are park-hopper passes that get you to both parks on the same day. A three-day PH should give you enough time.

How much are the park hoppers?

On the Disneyland website we paid $129 for 5 day hoppers with free shipping. I believe the 3 day was $124 so it's worth it to get the 5 day, even if you use a couple of the days to just go to the park for a couple of hours or an evening show.

And what is Downtown Disney like in CA vs FL?

Of course it's a lot smaller at DL since it and California Adventure were built primarily on what was the old parking lot. It's interesting the way they brought Disneyland Drive under the main walkway in Downtown Disney, it took me the first day or two to figure out how Downtown Disney was such a long stretch without having to cross a street.

Downtown Disney at DL only has one main (as far as I can remember) Disney Store which is called World of Disney. In FL there is the World of Disney, Team Mickey, a Disney Christmas store, a Disney home store etc. There are still a lot of stores, but not as much Disney merchandise. Also, there are no big structures in CA such as DisneyQuest or Cirque du Soleil.

Like said above, it is quite a bit smaller of course. But it's still a good size. The atmosphere is great and it always feels lively, especially at night.
