I'm going to DL for 5 days and 4 nights, and I want to know how much money I should bring for food and souveniers. It's just me and my mom, but since it's my birthday I don't really want to have to skimp, and we are having one meal at the Blue Bayou. Any estimates would be greatly appreciated!

This is just my experience from one day at the Resort. My DH and I spent over $200 on food and souveniers. Granted, that did include a Hoodie Jacket for $54.00 and a Pirate Hat and POTC tee shirt for $65.00. Just to give you an idea on food - a Corndog, small bag of chips and soda will run you about $8.50 in the parks and the BB is really expensive (at least I've heard as I have not eaten there myself).

Hi. Happy Birthday. I hope you enjoy your trip! I think you should bring about $250. I think that should be enough. The Blue Bayou meal put that one a credit card since it will be the biggest meal total. If your hotel has a breakfast, be sure you both eat well there each morning. I am not sure how much you will want in souveniers. I have a feeling that if you have breakfast is included with your stay, the $250.00 should be more than enough and that you will have money left over.

250 for food and souvenirs for 5 days? Hmm. Well, is this money for both of you, or just you? Since it's your birthday, if the money is separate, will your mom be treating you for your b'day?

Eh, I'd take more. Easy to take money home, right?

Blue Bayou for 1 unshared meal, 1 shared meal (cost plus $4 for the split plate fee), one kid's meal, and 2 iced teas plus 1 soda was over 80 bucks, with the AP discount (and tip). 2 unshared meals, 2 beverages, and a dessert, I'd imagine, would come close to our cost.

Have you see all the websites with menu information? Oh darn it, the one I wanted to check out, http://www.dlresortinfo.com, looks like it is being worked on right now... But check it out later. :)

The menus, especially those that are updated (that one had updated prices on it just the other day) can really help you figure out how much you might spend in a day, and that can help with your food budget.

As for souvenirs...only you know how much you want to spend on that. :)

We went to BB on Thursday for 5 of us and the bill was $110!!! In just one meal!! Crazy! (my chicken tasted like a what a petting zoo smells like)

We haven't spent much on food and extras really. But it just depends on what you like to shop for.

IMO - $250 for one full day or maybe 1 1/2 days!

*I always plan about $12.00 per meal per person. Some meals may be less and some a little more.

*If your hotel offers free breakfast, take advantage of it...this will save you one meal a day.

*Bring a bottle of water with you to the park and keep filling it up. Sodas and water in the park are $2.69! That really adds up when you're buying 2 or 3 a day! Drink water instead!

*Share meals when you can. Disney is very generous with their food and a lot of meals can be split. Plaza Inn has a great fried chicken dinner and you get 3 pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, veggies and a biscuit. It's a lot of food for one person!

*Adults can buy kids meals too! This saves on $$$ and also leaves room for a churro or a Dole Whip a little later down the road!

*Think about just ordering dessert instead of a meal at the Blue Bayou. It's much cheaper and you still get the experience of eating there.

As far as souvenirs...Look through all the shops first THEN decide what you want to buy. If you buy everything when you first see it, you'll end up spending a lot more than you planned! I always shop on my 2nd to the last day at the park after I've seen everything! I still spend too much but it helps!

You have some good money saving tips there! :thumbsup2

I think the OP's question is a hard one to answer. It depends on your spending type. :confused3

We are a family of 6 with one income, so we are always on the look out for ways to save money at the parks.
I won't go into a whole list of things we do, most of them have been listed before.
I just wanted to point out that you can really spend a fortune at Disney or you can do it pretty inexpensively. It can go either way and it's really just up to you and what sort of vacation you want.

Either way, your at Disney!! So have fun!!!!! :yay:

I agree with the $12 per person per meal rule. That is usually about how I figure our meal money out. I usually end up having some left over, since we do a lot of McDonalds type meals offsite. When we ate at the BB in June the bill came to $115, for the three of us. We didn't have desert either!

As far as souvenirs go, it just depends on what and how much you want to buy. For the 3 of us I usually like to have a good $400. But I really love to shop! :)
