How much money do you usually spend with DDP

We did the DP the last 2 years & it was plenty of food. With a early CS & a TS everyday we were great. We used the snacks whenever we got hungry.

This year we wanted to try some signatures, Spirit of Aloha & the candlelight so we are going Deluxe. I still have max of 2 TS each day & 1 extra meal left that we will use as CS if we want them. May be too much food but worked out way better $$ wise & we wanted to try some new things this year.

The one trip we did the basic dining plan and spent a ton of money OOP. We paid for resort or character breakfasts every morning and a couple TS lunches because we got really sick of CS every day and just wanted to relax and get out of the heat and crowds. We also paid for a couple dinners so we had credits for signature dinners.

All trips since this we have done the deluxe plan and have paid almost nothing OOP. Last trip we only paid for lunch at Brown Derby because we only get the cobb salads and they are definately not worth the use of 2 credits. So, besides that lunch, we only paid for alcohol and tips. :)

Forgot to add that we ate lunch at Rainforest Cafe in AK last trip and also paid OOP for that. It is not on the dining plan and our family wanted to eat there.

The only exception we found to the dining plan being enough was our arrival day and departure day were full days (lunch and dinner on arrival, breakfast and lunch on departure). This left us one meal short of having enough credits on the dining plan. We ended up paying for one lunch OOP because of that - otherwise, our meals would have all been covered with the DDP. We did opt, though, to do CRT so we had another OOP expense as well.

Personally, I'm budgeting $10 per adult and $5 per child for each TS meal credit used (except CRT where it's all covered). Add to that an occasional adult beverage, I'm thinking $40 per day for tips and sundry for our family of four (2A, 2C). As others have said, though, YMMV depending on your habits. If you do appetizers on the regular dining plan, that is an additional expense I haven't figured in. We always found the meals themselves to be PLENTY though. :confused3

Willa, I'm curious, and I hope I'm not being rude, but are you a large person?

We were at WDW 2 weeks ago on the dining plan and we had plenty of food. We usually ate a very light breakfast using a snack credit or stuff we brought from home or left overs from the night before, an early CS lunch, and a TS dinner. I often found that in the morning, I was still full from dinner. We ate a ton of food, and I like to eat!

We walked a ton and ate more than we do at home, but we found the DP to be more than enough food.

One thing we did was to order an adult CS for our 9 year old. This also provided some left overs that we would not have had with a kids meal.

Cheers!

Max

Really???? You didn't set out to be rude?????how on earth could anyone possibly NOT think that was rude???? TOTALLY out of line, and frankly not anyone here's business.

To the OP's question.
I think it really depends on where you eat and what you choose to order. WE do a couple of 2TS meals, and end up paying OOP for a couple of TS Lunches as a result. We don't have to but we choose to. That plus tips and couple of drinks are usually all we spend on as far as food.

We were on DxDDP for week last January. We put all drink extras and tips on our room card. We spent around $350.00 for 3 of us.
