How much luggage allowed per passenger & other questions for novice?

It's been 5 years since I've flown, so I guess it's a whole new world. We're flying on Delta, and I don't know how many bags per person we can have, how many carry-ons, and if our stroller counts against either of those? We plan to check the stroller at the gate of the plane if they'll allow it.

Also... how early do we need to get to the airport before the flight? And what kind of things CAN'T we pack/carry on plane? Is there a list somewhere? What about security... I need to know what NOT to bring so we can avoid jail time - ha ha!

You can usually check 2 bags and carryon 1 plus a personal item (purse, briefcase, laptop, small backback). Check the individual airline website for details.
