We would have saved some on food by getting free dining, but that was offset by the tix we'd have to buy and the discount I got as a bounceback on POP.
Plus, we would have had to pay OOP for 2(at least) of the meals we have booked.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime trip for my granddaughter, the princess lover.
Then there's the souvenirs.

Same as it has been every September and January for as long as I can remember. Doesn't seem to matter what type of ticket/package we purchase the WDW lodging/dining portion is always a pretty static $2200. Actually the air never varies much either. I'm sure there has been variation over the past 20 yrs., but I've only been tracking the past 6 years or so.
Forgot to add we are 2 adults/no kids
We usually manage to send another 500-1,000.00 OOP (gifts, drinks, Dooney & Bourke)

We used to have less expensive vacations, but then we stayed at the Poly, and now they're much more expensive. The good news is the ability to hop on a monorail, or walk anywhere, (international gateway for you will be awesome!) makes it all worthwhile.

WAY way more than we've ever spent before, but with the baby being so little and going to sleep so early I just felt like the suit would be an easy way for us to put her down at night and still be able to hang out for a while without waking her up. And airfare is not only about $100 more expensive per person, but we've never paid for her before!

I am looking at how much people are spending for rooms and most go every year or so, why dont you look into DVC in the long run you will be saving .........

We did look into DVC - and ALMSOt purchased, but changed our minds within the 10 day waiting period.

Honestly we really wouldn't be saving that much money - and it would take at least 12 vacations for us to break-even. first, we enjoy the dining plan, we enjoy the aspects of being 'guests' vs being 'home'. I don't cook or clean on vacation.

Also for the vacations we like to take we'd need at least 360 points to make it doable, but at least 500 to make DVC feel like 'an upgrade' in our vacations style. At that price point our dues alone would make it so it's only slightly less expensive than paying OoP - plus the fact that we'd have to finance we'd be looking at our yearly cost for 5-10 years being almost identical to what we pay now - though it might 'feel' different, and be spread out over a year vs scrounging up last second the way we typically do - it would still take a while to make it 'worth it'. Then to top it off - and the deal breaker to our children, we LOVE the Poly - and it isn't worth it to convert points to stay at the Poly from a DVC resort.

And to top it off - our family can stay in a regular guest room at a regular Disney resort - but we need a 2 bdrm villa in a DVC - we love the space in the Poly, the number of beds, but we really don't need to have a vacation 'home' the same size as the house we live in at home. And after 30+ trips to Disney, I STILL love spending the majority of the time int he parks,s o I really wouldn't even benefit front he extra space.

No, no nanny, sorry! My parents actually own a vacation home nearby and, on the rare occasions when we want to dine at Victoria and Albert's, the kids will go with Grandma and Grandpa.

We bought DVC for the purpose of being able to go often and stay in nice accommodations for our large family. We have owned for 2 years and taken 7 trips between us and our grown children, so it has paid for itself. The trip I am taking in August with my son and grandson will not be too bad. My grandson and I have annual passes I bought last summer, so that's paid for. Our OKW villa is on our points, so no cost there. We will have a full kitchen and I plan on cooking breakfast and having snacks to save money. My son paid for the airfare for all 3 of us, plus a rental car for off site part of the stay. I won a trip to Daytona and Orlando (no cost), and we split the cost of the Universal tix. Plus my son paid for his own park hopper ticket. Therefore, my cost for our upcoming two week trip to Daytona Beach, Orlando, and WDW will probably be about $1,000.
