Yesterday, someone (or someones) hit the Powerball jackpot for $340 million. That kind of money actually scares me. I think if I hit and it was only me who purchased the ticket, I would walk away from the money. I wouldn't be able to claim that much. What about you? How much is too much? Would you take the $340 million??

I'd take it -- I couldn't imagine walking away from it. Of course, I would give a lot to charity, help a lot of people out, try to do some good with the $$, etc., but I would definitely claim it.

If you wouldn't accept the money, then why would you play? I don't understand.

The concept of "too much money" just does not compute with me.

I most certainly would take the money. That would most definitely help with Dad's medical bills. And, whoever said "Money doesn't buy happiness"...never had money ;)

First, the taxes will reduce it by half.

Then, if you take a lump sum instead of the 20 year annuity it will reduce it
again by about half. So now, instead of 340 million you are talking about 75 million.

Granted, that is still lots of money and could change your life significantly.

I would be tempted to invest it somewhere privately and just not say anything to anybody. You could continue to live your life without financial worries and slowly adjust to whatever changes you want to make.

If I bought a fancy new car or something I would just say I got lucky in Vegas.

I can't imagine having 'too much money' but then, never have had much.....
I sure wouldn't walk away, and would love to have it to see if it was too much ;)

Money = choices in virtually every aspect of life. I don't understand why anyone would walk away from it. My suggestion would be, if you found yourself in that position, to first talk to a trusted financial planner to help you get your mind around it. Then you could decide if you wanted to live like Parid Hilton forever, donate it to charity and carry on, or somewhere in between (which is what I think most people would do). As a parent, my biggest concern would be financing a lifestyle that I don't really want my children to have (a la Ms. Hilton). But you can bet they'd go to college! In a case like the lottery, I think I could do a better job of dispersing the money to deserving charities than the government could.

Since the winner is from Oregon I'm hoping that it's my mom. :rotfl: After she shares with all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, it won't be too much money for her. Hey, I can dream!

Anything over $500,000 for me would be bonus bucks. That would pay off my house, all my bills, allow for college funds and an addition on the house. Maybe a sports car, and an extended Disney trip. But I would be perfectly happy if 300 people won the lottery with me if it was $340 million.

Nothing is too much money if you use it for good. Donations to charities, invest in your community. Set your siblings up for life.

I don't think there is a such thing as TOO much money!

I would live all over ..esp Disney, but I think when you get to that much money, you really have to think hard about where you want it to go. Personally I would set up trusts for my family so they could live off intrest. And probably donate 1/2 of it to several causes, and scholarships. But I might have to have a private jet(share) so I could get where I wanted to go without having to find cheep airfare. But again I would probably live off intrest.

I could never think there is such a thing as too much money! Sorry but I would take that money in a hearbeat. I don't believe for a minute you would walk away from that money if you won it. You wouldn't have bought the ticket in the first place had you not wanted to win it!

WALK AWAY FROM IT? And let the state (or whoever) have it? No way. I'd deal with it, thanks.

I don't know what I would do with that much money :confused3

But I can assure you that I would certainly give it a good try :rotfl:

The reason i say it's scary money is because they were doing a story about people who had won the big payout and their lives aren't anywhere near as happy as they thought they would be. One man's granddaugther was kidnapped, held for ransom, and then murdered. People were calling the winners saying "I'm going to kill myself over the phone if you don't give me $3 million." or "my son is dying of cancer, I need $4 million" etc. etc. I guess I wasn't clear. Personally, I'd love to have the money if it didn't come with the risks to myself or my family.

I would take it in an instant. With that much money I could fund research on infertility and also be able to start a charity for people who struggle with infertility that can't afford measures such as IVF.

The winner is from southern Oregon, so maybe it is my mom. :rotfl: Or maybe she would have called me by now...
