How much is too much money??

Too much money? :rotfl2:

I can say with all sincerity that I would never walk away from any amount of legally gained money.

Actually, I'd be happy with about $160,000. That would pay off the mortgage and one car payment that we have and leave us in very good shape financially.

Well, since it was me who won the money, no, of course it's not too much!

Just kidding!

But I was reading an article in the paper this AM- if whoever won it takes it out as a lump, it will be 105 million or something like that. I would just be nervous that complete strangers would be bugging me for money, or relatives whom I haven't spoken to in a decade were suddenly my best friends.

I think I would set up trusts or something for my nearest and dearest friends and family member. Or buy them a new house or car, etc. Set up some serious trust funds for our children. Buy a larger home, but not extravagent. And go on several nice vacations! Heck, a nice vacation or two a year for the rest of my life! And I would definitely give some to my church and various charities. Maybe beef up the local park with some cool new play structure, etc.

A guy in our tiny town won $17 million a few years back. You're right, he WAS bugged by a bunch of people for $$. The only one he gave some to was one woman who asked for $50 for orthotic shoes for her son.

What is really sad in that case is, the guy is a pedophile! Seriously, I know this, I'd been in his "lair". Not only can he fend off any lawsuits (there were some in place before he won the $), but he can go to a poor country and buy all the children he wants with his winnings.

It's true that money can't buy you happiness (although in the case of the pedophile, maybe...). But it can make things easier for you and your loved ones, and whatever pet causes you might have.

Let's hope the winners have better luck than the guy who won the 314 million 3 years ago. He's been arrested for drunk driving, had drugs slipped in his drink at a strip club so people could rob him, had a friend of his granddaughter's found dead in his home and worst of all his granddaugter died. I think she OD'd and the boyfriend got scared (it was at his house) and hid her body for a few days. She was buried around Christmas Eve last year, 2 years after he won the money. I've heard the winner always had problems but the money brought notoriety and more problems.

WHAT?

If you win the PowerBall, gimme a call!!!

I'd throw all the money on the floor, cover my body in honey, roll around in it and whatever sticks to me, I spend that day.

I would have no problem at all claiming the money.

Then, if I chose to, I could give some away to charity, or set up non-profits to help people.

The reason i say it's scary money is because they were doing a story about people who had won the big payout and their lives aren't anywhere near as happy as they thought they would be. One man's granddaugther was kidnapped, held for ransom, and then murdered. People were calling the winners saying "I'm going to kill myself over the phone if you don't give me $3 million." or "my son is dying of cancer, I need $4 million" etc. etc. I guess I wasn't clear. Personally, I'd love to have the money if it didn't come with the risks to myself or my family.

Well, if someone used extortion to get money from me (I'll kill myself if you don't give me a million dollars), I'd hang up on them (assuming they could even get my telephone number - see below re: security).

As for protecting myself and my family from robbery or kidnapping, you can bet that I would move to an exclusive neighborhood and have very, very, very good security.

Well, yes, of course I'd take it if I won it, but I do understand what you mean. That amout of money is life-changing in more ways than people initially think.

First off, I'd pay off all the outstanding debt of those closest to me...friends and family...houses, college etc. I'd probably take a heck of a trip to WDW. I'd buy more DVC points. Obviously I'd make the appropriate charitable donations after researching different organiztions, perhaps set up a fund of some sort for a good cause.

The drawback of that kind of money is the beggars or the people who would think that you "should" give them some "because"...because they are family or friends or poor or because you can afford it.

No amount would be too much. Other than share the wealth with my family, especially my parents and grandparents and set up funds for my children's education. There's many charities and deserving people in the world who would benefit from my winnings. Last but not least, I would be able to afford visits all the Disney parks in the world and take along a bunch of well deserving kids so they too can enjoy the magic.

There was another big one, last spring or so and the guy who won it is from here in Boise. He hasn't spent any of it. Still drives his older car, still lives in the same place and still goes to work. He said on the Today show he was going to invest it all and I think he did! My dh knows him and that is what he told me. I'd at least buy a new car! :confused3

How much is too much money? How ever much Michael Jordan has.

He has admitted to losing a ton of money gambling. I heard a story he bet $125,000 on one golf shot and lost.

Heard aother story on the radio today that he hired a Limo to run an errand for him and his golf buddies. The Limo was to travel to a town about a 1/2 an hour away from where they were playing and pick up 20 cigars that are hard to find anywhere else. The cost, $21,000 not including the limo.

That's when you know you have too much money.

Rickin NYC, that is NOT a pretty mental picture! I can only imagine being the clerk to get your sticky $$$! Eeewww!

OTOH, if it were your money, you could probably hire someone to wash it before you stuck it in your wallet!

How much money is too much? It could never be too much as far as I'm concerned! After I spent and invested enough for myself, dispersed it among my family/friends, I could still easily find plenty of worthy causes. Bring it on! :wizard:
