How much is it to hire an exterminator??

We have mice (or something) living in one of our walls
I am going to call an exterminator. Anyone have a ballpark idea of how much this will cost?

We only used one for carpenter ants and it was about 500.00....I think mice are cheaper though.

we use a local company but when we price compared it seemed that they were in line with the national chains. we paid $70 for the first appointment-they came out and checked for everything, cleaned the spider webs out of the eves, knocked down and disposed of the beginings of some wasp nests, sprayed for certain problem/likely to be problem critters. we pay $70 every two months for bi-monthly service (although they will come out at no extra charge to address any problems we detect).

we had only the run of the mill spiders and ants until some new construction a few blocks down drove the field mice into the adjacent homes. the adjacent homes had pest companies come out to address their problems and the mice kept moving down the street, block by block (i think they were scoping out the houses that did'nt have pest service trucks in front of them ).

It depends on several factors - your area, what you are exterminating. I would ask them to come out and give you an estimate. We are having the same problem as you...except they are under the house.

I would also suggest going with a smaller, locally-owned extermination company. I have found that their customer service is much better, since competition is high. They are more likely to come out over and over again until your problem is solved whereas larger ones just want your money and will charge for subsequent visits. JMHO.

We used Terminix for our carpenter ant problem in our wall last year (I'm wondering if that might be what you've got? We thought it was mice at first too-this scratching sound in the wall that made me bonkers.... my DH went up into the attic and peered down between the wall... tons and tons and tons of ants!!! ) The year prior to that in the same wall we had carpenter bees Both times Terminix came out and got rid of the problem for us... The first time we did the bees we only did the initial extermination that was good for a 30 days guarantee...that was $250.... last year we signed up for the annual inspection plan which was $460? I think... They know me as the paranoid psycho person who hates pesticides, so when they come out to inspect, I won't let them treat anything unless there is an active problem~the plan covers basically all pests EXCEPT termites over the course of a year.... GL! BUGS SUCK!
