I mean, when you check in and the room isn't ready?

Can you believe we have never checked in at Disney and NOT had our room ready, even with several early a.m. check ins? Clearly, however, that will not be the case with this trip since the Poly is 100% booked. So, I was wondering how much they tell you ahead of time - they don't give out your exact room number until you call for it after 4 p.m., correct? But would the CM be able to say at check in, for example, "You'll be on the 3rd floor of the Tahiti building." Is that too specific? If so, how will I know if my request was granted or not?

Thanks!

They do give you the room number, as well as a map with a circle or X over the spot where your room is. :) They give you the key, too. The number you call just lets you know when you can get in.

Ah, really?!? Where's the head smacking icon? I've been misunderstanding the process for years, I guess. I knew they gave you the key - MYW tix and DDP are on it - but I thought they worked some behind-the-scenes Disney magic to make the key work on a room when it was time to actually go to your room. That would really be some technical pixie dust, eh? I am kind of a dummy when it comes to the technical stuff.

We didn't get our room # at Pop. They told us what building and circled the area, but we didn't get the room # until we called back and found the room was ready. I don't know if it is different at different resorts.

That is exactly how it went for us. Also at POP.

In the past, they have always given us the building, but not the room number.

We have never gotten the room number. Usually they can tell us the building we will be in, but not always. We were specificly told that we coud not have the room number until it was vacated and cleaned

In all my trips there has only been 2 times that our room was not available, once at the WL and once at POFQ. We were not given our room number at either resort, but merely given the number to call. At the POFQ we were not even given an idea of what building we were assigned to.

Our rooms have always been ready except for the one time we stayed at CBR. They did let us know which "island" we were staying in so we could park our vehicle in that lot, but that was it. We didn't find out the room # until we called back later in the day.

I'd be genuinely surprised if any hotel - Disney or otherwise - gave the Guest the room number before the room is ready.

As others have said, they do NOT give the room number until your room is ready.

That would be way too much temptation for people. There would still be families there not checked out yet with others hanging outside the door waiting to get in or the housekeepers would be trying to clean and people would just want to take a "minute" to check out the room or leave their luggage.

In the past I have generally been told the building or the floor depending on which resort we are staying at.

Our room usually is not ready as we usually arrive in the late AM.
I have never been told the room # until I called and it was ready.
Last time the CM said "I see we met all your requests", but he didn't tell me the room number. I had to trust he was telling the truth (he was, but we have simple requests like non smoking, higher floor).
HTH

The few times a room hasn't been ready, I've asked if my requests were met (I usually have generic ones like upper floor, first floor, close pool, etc.) and they would tell me yes. But I never got the room number until I called back and the room was ready. This is at CR, WL, and BC. Since the CM will know which room it is, and can see your requests, they should be able to tell if your requests are met. If there is one request that is more important than the others, such as close the pool, I would mention that one specifically, like "Will our room be close the pool?" so if you have more than one request and they were able to meet all the others but not that one, you'll know right away so they can look for another room.

OK, I must be wrong. I really thought they did give you the room #. Srooy.
