How Much in Advance to Reserve SOG?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to be posting this question but wasn't sure where to ask. I was wondering how much in advance do you need to get reservations at Shades of Green. A co-worker's husband is coming home from Iraq for a 2-week leave and they want to go to WDW while he's home. The problem is that she's not exactly sure when he will get home. He's supposed to go on leave around 8/14, but it might take about 3-5 days before he gets to leave or get home. Do you think it would be possible to get reservations there at the last minute? Also are there any specials for military while on leave from Iraq?

It's been really hard on her as she has 2 small children and has to work and no family nearby to help her. Plus her uncle (who raised her) recently died suddenly. They've been trying to go to WDW for the past year or so but between his work (he's a fireman) and the National Guard, he has been unable to get the time off for vacation. Just when they thought they might be able to go, he was called up for active duty last January. I know they both really want to go to WDW while he's home as he has to go back to Iraq and won't be back until next May.

I know it's probably almost impossible to get in at the last minute, but thought I'd check here as I know someone on the DIS would know.

I don't know too much about SOG, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

I really feel for her. My husband is leaving for Iraq on Sept 25th. I booked SOG in January with a weeks notice. In June I was on the waiting list for a week before something became available.

WDW also has 30% and 40% off rack rates for military until October. Check out www.mousesavers.com for details. May be easier to get a room there - but you do have to pay tax unlike shades of Green.

Thanks for the info. I'll let her know about the military discounts and tell her to call Monday.

PA Disneylover, I'll keep you and your husband in my prayers.

Hi

You can go online and check their availability. I found that as long as you are not planning around a vacation/holiday, there is usually availability. I am not sure how booked they are in summertime though. Also, if you call them, they have a special R&R deal- reduced rates with breakfast and dinner included. I was checking it all out becuz my DH leaves for Kuwait soon...we were trying to decide if/when he gets leave if we might want to meet up there and surprise the kids....

Good luck and please thank her and her family for what they are doing for our country.

I have a room reserved from 9/9 thru 9/16, check out on the 17th that I'm going to be cancelling soon if that helps.

And to answer your other question SOG does have a special promotion for those either on leave from Iraq or who have just been to Iraq. Their website has the specifics.

I hope they have a wonderful vacation. My dh should be home from Iraq in just about a month and I can not wait to have him safe at home again.

Lisa, I will make sure to thank her for you. She and her husband both believe in this cause and stopping terrorism. And I pray every day for a safe return for all of our service men and women.

His unit was the one that had a bad fire in their sleeping quarters a couple of weeks ago and several of the soldiers had everything destroyed. He was one of the lucky ones since he wasn't right there when it happened, but one of the other soldiers was able to run in and grab his pictures of his family. There was a big write up in the newspaper and her husband was quoted as saying he was so thankful that his friend was able to save his wife and children's pictures. Everyone at work was crying after reading the article since he sounds like such a great guy. He wasn't thinking about his cd's or other material things, just wanted his pictures. When it comes down to it, all that matters is family.

That's good to know about the R&R deal. I didn't know about the breakfast and dinner included. I'll make sure to tell her about it and to check on this.

Califred, I'm happy for you that your husband will be home soon. I'll keep him in my prayers for a safe return home.

stm61, I'm not sure if he'll still be here in Sept. so not sure if it will help or not. I'm going to let her know about it this Monday and urge her to call as soon as she as a date they can go.

Thanks again for all your help.
:)
