How much has the West Coast gone up?

At first I didn't sign up for the West Coast (Mex Riviera) trip due to cost. But I have been thinking about it (alot!)and since we live in Arizona and I won't have to buy plane tickets to Florida it will probably cost me the same in the long run. Now if I can talk my husband into it - I was wondering how much has the cost of this cruise gone up since it was first announced (for example about how much was a category 9 for 2 adults if you signed up back in May?). It is now around $4,701.00. Also to consider I could do the Carnival Pride for about $2,700.00 can I really justify that kind of difference just to be on the Magic?

The price varies with the date you choose. Go to the DCL site and click on reservations then "get a quote" for an accurate amount on the date you are considering. Then call DU or another discount TA!!!! You'll save a little that way.

I booked a west coast cruise in mid May(not when they were first announced, but within 2 weeks after I think) and that has gone up $1400.00 since then. We have a cat 6, 2 adults, 2 kids. I hate to think how much it went up before I booked.

I STUPIDLY did not book when the west coast was announced. We have cruised the Magic every August for the past three years. I called last week, and for one adult, 3 children (including 1 infant) it would cost three times what I'm paying this year.... same category. Cat 9. Something like $7,000.

We booked a Magic cruise out of LA on the first day they were available. For two adults and a 2-year old, the cost was around $4400 for a category 7 room. As you mentioned, we could have booked the same itinerary on the Carnival Pride leaving the next day for about half the price. But we put our deposit down, knowing we didn't really have to decide right then, but that the price would never be less than on that first day.

In the end, we moved the reservation to September 2005, where a 7-nighter for the same three people is about $2000 less. I figure it's a virtual certainty that I can get airfare to Florida and a hotel room for the night before for less than the difference.

I just looked at that same cruise (6/4/05), and the price has increased $200 since we booked in May. Both prices are for a category 7 room.

I just checked DCL to see if the price of our sailing has gone up. It's the same price for a Cat 10 as it was in late May. But we booked early to get connecting SPH rooms.

I think it may depend on the particular sailing and how full the ship is getting.
I can't give you cat. 9 info - but for the May 28 sailing - 2 people in a cat. 7:

$3,545.16 booked within an hour of the dates opening
$5,361.16 when I checked 8/2

As to whether it's worth it or not - I'm still not sure.
Like you we are in AZ. and really thought it would be a great opportunity to sail without a cross-country flight, but the prices do seem VERY high.

We booked the Magic for next June 25 - July 2 just last week. Costco gave us a quote of $5766.32 for 4 people in cat. 9!

if prices are rising that fast it sounds like the west coast runs are filling up fast. thats good and bad. good that DCL can compete on the west coast and bad for the people wanting to cruise DCL.

I saw an ad on cruise critic for west coast Disney sale. I clicked on it and tried to put in our day to see if prices have gone down. It wouldn't let me. I went to the Disney site and it looks like our category is sold out. I can't believe people are willing to pay that much to go on this cruise. I thought for sure they would have to lower prices in order to fill the cruises because the prices were so much more than other lines--guess I was wrong and I'm glad we booked when we did.

Just out of curiosity, when did the dates first open up for this west coast cruise? I wasn't even planning a trip, but got an email from my Disney Annual Pass that advertised it about 2 weeks ago. I asked my husband what he thought about going on a Disney cruise and we booked two nights later. We went thru DCL and we got a Cat 5 for 3 of us and it was $7100. We haven't been on a vacation for 20 years and it will probably be a once in a lifetime thing for us. Looks like from this board we got a great room though. We are going 6/11-6/18. If we get hooked, guess we'll have to book the cheaper rooms just to be able to get on the ship next time. :)

I don't have my paperwork right here - so I might be off by a day or two - but I think booking opened up on May 5th.
