I haven't been to either a wedding or a gradution in a while so wondered what the appropriate monetary gift would be for each event?

The graduation is for my niece and the wedding is for a nephew who I haven't seen in many, many years. We will be attending both events and I am not sure what the expect/appropriate gift is.

Thanks.

I have been giving $100 to my neices and nephews for graduation. How many people are attending the wedding? It is hard to say because different parts of the country, have different gift giving ideas. I would probably give a neice or nephew $300 - $500 from our family.

I agree that it is probably a regional thing as to how much to give for a wedding. For the daughter of our best friends we gave $300.

Is it a HS or college graduation?

We simply give what we want to give and/or can afford to give depending on the occasion and our relationship to the recipient(s). Typically $15-$100, with some exceptions on either end.

We consider weddings and high school graduations to be very important occasions, and nieces/nephews to be close relatives, so we would give $100 unless we couldn't afford to.

If the occasion is college/university graduation, we consider a card sufficient.

We don't give a gift or card for graduations unless we receive a graduation announcement and/or invitation. We give a gift for the wedding of a close relative regardless of receiving an announcement/invitation.

Same here.

Graduation is high school and in addition to her gift I am giving her the sheet cake for the party. I was thinking $100 so I seem to be on target.

The wedding is in NC.....$300-$500 seems insane to me, I am really out of touch. WOW.

Weddings are extremely regional. For my family it's always been 50-100. HS grad for my nephews I think we did 25 or 50, can't remember.

For our nieces/nephew, it would be $100 each for graduation and for wedding $150-$200. We're in Michigan. I also think it depends on income.

Personally, I'd give the graduate $50 and the groom to be $100.

All graduates get $100 and wedding it is $300, unless it is ia destination wedding.

Giving the graduate $150 plus a sweatshirt from their college. She will also have a going away party in August that I will give cash to.

Wedding depending on who it is around $300-$500. For best friends/sisters/brother it could be more.

Wow! I'm amazed at what some of you give for weddings. No wonder people these days have huge, extravagent weddings - they'll have it paid in full before they get through 1/2 the gift cards!

Now, I haven't attended a wedding for a while for a close relative. One of my favorite nieces is getting married next year so I guess I better start saving my pennies!:rotfl2:

For graduations, I've always given the same to nieces and nephews since the 1st one was old enough - $50 for high school, $100 for college.

Most of our monetary wedding gifts were $50 or $100. We usually gift $50 for weddings.

Right!? Anyone want to come to my wedding? :lmao:

Weddings-we generally give $100, and we also buy for the bridal shower.
Graduation $50-$100, since you are also purchasing the cake.

We only had godparent give us $200-$400 at our wedding. We also had some that gave nothing, and one whose check bounced. We were married within the lst decade. I do not think most people give as much as has been previously stated.

Last year we gave $50 to high school graduates not in our family and $150 plus a small gift for those in our family. We haven't had a wedding in a long time but I have to say it would be at lease $300 for a neice or nephew OR maybe something very expensive and a keepsake/heirloom gift.

$75 for gradeschool, $100 for high school.

$200 for a wedding, unless we are close, then it is more.

WOW! So glad I read this thread...I have about 8 graduations-all high school & 6 weddings-I'm in one...YIKES!!!!:scared1:

When we attend weddings for people we are friends with and not overly close, usually $100 - $200 (depending on the venue - and guess of price per meal). General rule of thumb is a wedding gift should at least be equal to the dinner price for those in attendance (although many sites/opinions vary on this rule of thumb, so take it at face value).

For family and friends we are close with, depending on who from $250 up (and plus the venue).

Graduation, for immediate family (neices/nephews), $100, for beyond that $50. I've also but stock(s) of their choice (within reason).
