We have been using either the QSP or DDP for the last several trips. I am considering booking a non DVC trip so we won't have a kitchen. I won't be buying tickets to our resort stay so can't add the dining plan. So how much on average do you spend on food per person, per day? We will probably forgo desserts with the meal and share beverages and drink water. We have one 9 year old. So I am thinking that $100 a day should be plenty for two CS meals and breakfast in the room. Thoughts?

I think it would be simpler and more accurate if you looked at the menus on allears or the DisneyWorld sites to determine what your family would eat so that you can figure out approximately how much you would spend daily.

What are you doing for park tickets? If you have AP tickets, you can book an AP rates room and add the dining plan without buying more tickets. Even if just one of you has the AP, you can book the room as AP & add dining plan for everyone in the room without buying additional tickets with the room. Just an FYI, in case you didn't know this.

Anyway, back to your question...$100 per day for the 3 of you should probably be close to adequate for counter service meals, especially if you're sharing drinks & skipping desserts - you may have to be flexible about where you eat though, because some counter service places can run closer to $20 per adult. There's also a fair number of counter service meals that can be shared, like the BBQ ribs/chicken meal at Cosmic Ray's in Magic Kingdom. Most counter service meals for adults will be in the $10-$15 per adult price range

You can easily do CS for about $10/pp if you're not ordering drinks or desserts. The large drinks are a little over $2. The only time it will be over $10 is the places where there are combo meals and maybe some of the CS in the World.

If someone isn't very hungry, you can even order a kid's meal.

$100 a day for the three of you to do two meals is MORE than adequate. You'll even get a few snacks in a day for that price.
