How Much For Delivery Tip?

I am having a new refrigerator delivered later this week, and am not sure how much to tip (been awhile since I needed a new one). In my opinion, they are awful to move because they're big, bulky, and heavy. So, I'm thinking $20 per delivery person. Too much? Not enough? What would you tip?

(in case it matters, it cost around $650)

I'm not sure. I've always tipped furniture/appliance delivery drivers. I guess they make at least minimum wage, but they're saving me a lot of hassle. And even though it's their job, I appreciate it!

About 15 yrs ago, one poor driver broke his finger delivering a sofa when it got caught in the door. I tipped him especially well.

Depends on what they are doing. I purchased a new washer and dryer and set up delivery. They are the huge front loaders with pedestals. They installed and balanced the new washer and dryer and hauled away the old ones and I can tell it was a lot of work. I gave them $60 for the 2 of them. Normally if furniture is being delivered, we will give about $25 each.

Yea my laundry room is right off the garage. They could not get the old washer and dryer out of the room so they had to remove the door leading our to the garage. I gave them each a cold beer to brink while the washer and dryer was being set up along with bottled water.

I offer each deliverer a bottle of water, but if I'm not asking for anything special, like tvguy, I also don't tip. I did tip for my washer/dryer delivery b/c I asked the guy to hook up my vent hose (which wasn't included in the delivery) and gave $20 to the deliverer for a job well done. But, he had to take time and do extra work - usually, since I have electric, my (few) kitchen appliance deliveries take about 2 minutes, tops, and the biggest thing is whether the deliverer will destroy my kitchen floor (which I now always take pictures of before and after delivery)...

Thanks for posting this link! I see from the comments/responses that there's a bit of disagreement out there. I tend to agree with the the person who said you don't buy appliances everyday, and tipping shows your appreciation to guys who probably aren't shown a lot. Lunch can be on me!

That sounds reasonable: tipping if they go "above and beyond." And, good thinking taking pics of the floor! I rent, and documenting places where damage could take place certainly can't hurt. I might add some pics of the door, as well. Thanks!

No. These days most delivery people are independent owner/operators not affiliated with the store.
The $50 to $125 I paid for delivery is going right into their pocket.
It's not like a restaurant, where a worker is making minimum wage and need the tip to bring them up to a living wage.
