How much for a tutor?

Have you tried going to a teacher store and buying some teaching supplies - like manipulatives or math games? It might me able to help and be fun without having to sit and do math problems

I second this. I can remember substitute teaching, and they had manipulatives to teach adding and subtracting where you have to carry. There are so many games you could play with her. Keep it fun. I can remember butting heads with my dd when she was younger, and needed help with homework.

I've been teaching for 18 years, have a MA in Special Ed and I'm certified in Wilson Reading. I charge $40 per hour, but I charge $25 per hour if I tutor one of my own students.

We're not allowed to tutor any student that we teach in my district. The thought is that you should be doing all you can for them in the time they are with you during the day.

$30 sounds fair though for a tutor for an hour. I guess it depends on what area you're from but around these parts that would be a great deal.

Like the poster above, you can not tutor your students for money.
30 an hour is very reasonable- you can't get one here for less than 40-45 an hour.

And this is pretty accurate here, I have usually paid teachers $50.00 and high school students $20.00. I just got lucky and found someone who would let me share the hour. We both pay $25.00 for the hour, two time a week, and she sits with both and helps them with whatever they need that day.:thumbsup2

In my county, we are absolutely not allowed to tutor any student from our own school (during the school year, but summer is o.k.) but can tutor students from other schools.

Thanks everyone. I am going to try finding a college student as it simply just is not in my budget to pay $30 an hour. I feel bad but whatcha gonna do?!

My DS worked as a tutor when he was in HS...he made $20 per hour. Give your local HS a call and speak with the guidance office.

That's what I suggested she do upthread. My son tutors Algebra and just picked up tutoring chem. Loves it!

If any of your child's friends have an older sibling in high school who does well in school, you might be able to hire them for a lot less than $30 per hour.

I live in California... Bay Area. I had a tutor for my 2 girls. My Oldest DD has ADD & Aspergers & my youngest DD is dyslexic. The tutor came to our house for 2 hours /2 X a week and charged 65$ an hour. :scared1:
