How much is too much to pay for a shirt? I am thinking of returning a shirt I bought yesterday.

It totally depends on what kind of shirt, brand name or generic, for work or for home, etc. What kind of shirt did you buy and how much was it?

well I saw a great shirt that I loved at J Jill and then I saw the price $65. I turned around and walked out the door. That was TOO much to pay.

It is mainly for work. It goes with a pair of pants I bought. After 40% off it was still $35.70 before tax. I feel nickeled and dimed to death I think. Xmas is coming up, arrgh.pirate:

I just bought a shirt yesterday for 40% too. It came to about $35.

Was it the non-iron fitted shirt from Banana Republic?

Is it a brand name? I would only pay that much if it was a name, otherwise I would say you paid too much. You could probably get 2 for that price in Target.

Banana Republic is my weakness, I have no limits in that store! But usually shop clearance or sales, rarely pay full price, but would it I loved it.

Polo style from Macy's...
Probably not a fantastic deal. Plus, Macy's always seems to run extra 20% every weekend on top of the 40% you got off. (A pet peeve of mine, why bother shopping at Macy's on a weekday unless you have a special pass or something).
Doesn't seem like you love the shirt. I would return it.

It depends on how good you look in it.:rotfl2: A shirt that ~I think~ I look good in is priceless.

Wow, that's a tough question. If it's something that fits me perfectly, is good quality, is something that can be paired with many things and is more classic/neutral than I'll spend more on it.

If it's something that I'm buying that I can only wear with one pair of pants/skirt, or is just to wear to one event, or is something more trendy that I doubt I'll be able to wear next year then I spend far less on it.

If you like it and can afford it, I don't think that is an exorbitant amount. You might have been able to get a polo cheaper, but you could also have paid much more elsewhere.

I buy lacoste shirts for about 25% off. I think they retail for 70-80 dollars. They last for a really long time and wear well. I would buy one in a unique color for full price.

Work shirts..way more. I've been buying shells at jcrew for 88 dollars lately. UGH.

It really depends on your budget not the shirt or its use.
When dh was making 100k a year I spent more than $35 a week on coffee..it would have been nothing to buy that shirt.

Now he is unemployed and $35 will feed my family lunch and dinner for 2-3 days. No way I am spending that kind of money on shirts now. (I felt guilty about a $5 shirt a few weeks ago.)

If you are comfortable with the spend then keep it, if not then it was not meant to be. :flower3:
