How much do you tip your hairdresser?

This has always bugged me and I never know if I'm giving too much of a tip or not enough. What do you consider customary to tip the person who does your hair? I'm thinking of someone you've been going to for awhile and you like the way they do your hair. Do you tip based on the price of the cut or color, or do you tip according to how much time the hairdresser takes to do your hair?

I usually give a $15.00 to $20.00 tip for something that costs me around $75.00. Enough, not enough?

I tip 15%. I used to tip 20%, but she raised her prices to a point where I am uncomfortable (but am not ready to try to find someone else - she does a really great job).

I normally figure 20% of whatever the cost is and tip that, more or less depending how I liked the person. Do the same for the boys and my husband too.

When I go I take DD with me and the total is around $35. I give a $5 tip. However, it only takes my hairdresser 20 minutes to do both of us. I think if it took longer I might tip more.

my final bill is usually around $100 and I tip $15 - $20 depending on how well I think I was treated. (if she worked on too many other people while I was under the dryer making me wait unncessarily for instance.)

I tip 20% cause I have a LOT of big, curly, crazy hair. I finally found a hairstylist who knows how to properly razor my hair into shape and he deserves every cent of that 20%.

My haircuts are $25. I can't afford to color, although I wish I could! This salon starts at $65 for a color. Yikes.

When I get everything done (cut, highlights, wax) my bill is usually around $100. I tip $20. A good hairdresser is hard to find! :)

I tip $25 on $170, usually another $5 to the shampoo girl, in retrospect, I'm undertipping. Yikes.

I usually tip 20%, and give a couple of bucks to the shampoo person.

If the shampoo person gives me a really good scalp massage I usually give a little more.

How much to you pay for hair cut?

Around here haircuts are between $30-40. I'm sorry, but that is outrageous, especially since the quality of the cut is really poor. I just moved to the area and have yet to find a quality stylist. The ones I have tried are real hacks.

I don't tip anything to those stylists. When I find someone that will take more than 20 minutes for a shampoo, cut and style, I will tip the customary 20%.

Yes, call me a cheapo!

I was just wondering if anyone else felt ripped off by hairdressers. At the salon I go to, they get "promoted" every few months, so their prices go up and the next thing you know a year goes by and you're paying double for the same exact services which are actually taking less time and effort, because they're trimming instead of "designing" a new style, and they're touching up your roots instead of "creating" a new color, etc. They're also always trying to push products making you feel as if you're cheap for not purchasing them. I need to find somewhere new, LOL! Thanks for listening.

For me, the cut, color and blowdry comes to about $100. I don't know how much the separate components cost.

I think that's ridiculous too, but she does a really good job and I love the color she uses/comes up with. I'm afraid to go somewhere else...

And I'm not too thrilled lately with the results. Seems I'm getting highlights every 7-8 weeks, instead of the usual 12 weeks before (we moved to a new state).
But, this place is open all the time! Open on Sunday! A great time to get my hair done!

I go to the JC Penney Salon at our local mall. A color, cut, and eyebrow waxing is $75.00. I agree, the prices seem high, but I'm not ready to go grey yet.

I also don't like when they push products on you, (the products they sell are way overpriced), and I used to feel like I had to buy them, but not any more. After shelling out money for my hair, I find it easy to say no to extra products.:D
