how much do you tip performers??

We had dinner at a family style resturant tonight and they had a clown going from table to table making balloon animals. He was really good and spent a lot of time with the kids. We tipped $2 for 2 balloon animals, my question is what is the normal tip?? I tried to look and see what others were tipping, but I couldn't tell. This seems to be a practice at a lot of resturants anymore with clowns and magic tricks etc....What do others tip and is there a standard tip that I don't know about??? Thanks!

I'm not sure what is 'correct', but 2 bucks for the interaction seems like a reasonable amount. I bet the kids had a nice time.

Not really the same thing, but I've danced ballet for 18 years and last year I went to see the Senegal Ballet (they're from Africa and not really typical ballet...an AMAZING performance though) And I was shocked to see many people walking up to the stage and sticking money to the dancers, or throwing it at them...In NYC and I would assume the US this is not custom...Does anyone know anything of this?

Clowns?? Really not the type of "performers" I thought you were going to be talking about when I opened this thread

$2 seems good to me...but I have never been to a restaurant that had roving clowns.
