How much do you tend to spend on a baby shower gift?

My own sister: $150

My sister-in-laws: $30

Friends: $0 My husband and I aren't close with anyone anymore so we won't give them a gift. My husband's old time friend called him to tell him his wife was pregnant and then never heard from him again...sorry, no gift for you.

I only buy items from their registry -- no one wants baby clothes. Really.

I doubt the man was calling to get a gift, he was probably just trying to share the good news. Did your dh ever call him back?

And I for one loved getting baby clothes... especially the 9 and 12 month stuff. when I use each outfit it reminds me of the person that gave it to us and it makes me smile. Some of the best stuff I got was off registry, like the awesome baby blanket one of my best friends made for me.

For family?
And others?

Immediate family $100
Depending on friend level $40-50
Coworkers money in the gift pool. I did buy an extra gift for a coworker who was having twins 10 months after having their first because I felt bad. :-)

Around $50 for friends and family.

For very close friends or very close family it would be more. It really would depend on who it was.

My sister's first and very BFF 's first (after fertility and years of tears) 300ish..
Most good friends other family 100. Co-workers 30-50 depending on the person. It has been as low as 20 but sentimental. I think 20-30 is standard. We do a lot of group gift cards and everyone does what they can.

Yes, my husband answered the phone when he called. Of course he wanted to share the good news which was fine. But it's a little odd to call out of the blue to announce that when this "friend" hasn't returned my husband's calls in over a year. Then, after the announcement, they were supposed to go to a movie together and the day of the movie my husband never heard from his "friend". He tried calling several times and never heard back. This guy has done this for years so my husband has finally written him off.

Family -- $100, give or take, depending on how close (immediate family gets more than cousins I never talk to)

Friends -- it can depend on how close; very close $50 or so but most are in the $20-30 range.

I loved getting baby clothes as do most people I know! I didn't have to buy many clothes the first 18 months!! I got lots of clothes for the shower and then of course the first time people see the baby they give clothes usually too- One of the guys at work bought me clothes- he bought an outfit in 0-3months, 3-6, 6-9,9-12 and 18 months! He covered all the ages LOL. I work with all guys so they all chipped in and bought me a digital camera, it was great-it was when they were really first coming out and a bit expensive so that was an awesome gift from a bunch of men!

$25 or whatever an outfit costs. I also do machine embroidery so often ill personalisés a onesie :-)

Immediate family up to $150. Good friends $75 to $100. Extended family and acquaintances around $40.

I always loved getting baby clothes. When babies wore them it was a nice memory of the gift giver. With DD2, I would even take a pic of her wearing it for the first time and text or FB it to the giver.

I don't have any siblings but for my cousins I do about $75-100. The last 2 cousins I went in with my mom and Grandma, got one a really pricey carseat/ stroller and the other we got her a cosleeper which was my absolute favorite baby item with my third daughter.
Friends I do $20-30. A very good friend of DHs and I is exciting and will probably spend $100 on him just *** we love him and gf so much.

I very rarely go to baby showers. Everyone I know is through having babies. But back when I use to go every once in awhile I would buy 3 large packs of Pampers and 3 large boxes of wipes. So I would spend about $60. Everybody can always use more diapers.

For family I spent about $100 on the shower. My brother and SIL had their shower in February. My DD is two, and clothes are nice but we got so many of them. If the people have space, the gift that I appreciated the most was a big box of size one diapers. I got a TON of clothes and diapers for a newborn, but barely anything for beyond that. One more thing, I wouldn't recommend getting a blanket. We were up to our ears in blankets, everybody seemed to give us one.

Typically $40 - $50 for shower gift (my usual gift is diapers, wipes, bottle brush, butt paste, socks, and an outfit) and then another $30 - $40 for hospital gift (typically a gender specific outfit, photo album, and a Target gift card)...

For immediate family...that I like ;) I spend whatever I feel like and can afford at the time. For my sister I did spend a good amount ( a couple of hundred) because it's my sister.

Now for the 1 million preggo chicks at work, probably 20-30 to get a nice gift. Now, if I just down right don't like them at all then I skip the shower and spend nothing.
