I was balancing the checkbook and
I just realized that since July 20th I have spent about $350 on film developing and digital developing!

OMG

I know that it is because we have had a lot of vacations day trips and activities the past 2 months but WOW!

I also have 6 rolls to go pick up today!
ouch -

am I the only one like this - the guy where I get my developing laughed - when I said 'I need a cheaper hobby'

We forget that the pics are such an important part of scrapping - and an EXPENSIVE part!

I don't think I spend as much as I used to since DD is almost 15 we don't seem to take as many everyday pics but on vacations it's probably a 10 roll minium.

And, what I don't like is if you have an Advantix camerea they charge you more for developing.

I have 10 rolls from our vacation this past summer to still develop but, I figure I'm only up to 1997 in my scrapbook so I have time before I will get to them. Although if DD has film we get it developed right away. I need to get these developed before Christmas because of some present ideas I have.

I can't say for sure how much I've spent this year but it's easily over $500.00.

I use Ritz Camera Center for developing. The average is about $10.00/24 exp roll including free doubles. Believe it or not, my DH is the one who pushes me to use them. I've previously used Martin's (local grocery), Meijer, Osco, Walgreen's, Eckerd's, Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. For the most part they were okay but I had a roll done at Ritz and the color was so much better. I like the personal service too.

I hate to even think how much I spend on film It isn't just the developing but also the actual film TOO!

I use about 10 rolls of film on an average trip to WDW Most events are at least a roll. I really am thinking about going digital. At least with that I can snap to my hearts content but only print/develope the ones I really want. It would also help with the clutter!

But that is still a long ways off. I have to many other bills!

Our local grocery store gives you free doubles and free film when you have it developed. It's about $7.99 per roll of 24 exp. I don't know if that is alot or not but the doubles and free film are worth it. My daughter gets the other set to do her own scrap books. My husband says the store is just feeding my addiction.

I send mine to either York or clark. Yes the mail I have used them since I was 18 yes 20 years and never a problem I just sent out 16 and it cost me 56.00 that is for double prints about 3.50 a roll I am wery happy with them

I don't want to know . The last time the bill was so high because we had waited so long to get the film developed . I thought my husband was going to have a heart attack . Right now I know there is about 12-14 rolls waiting to be developed , plus 7- 8 instant cameras , not to mention the digital camera ! Someone in scrapbookin land is making a killing of of me .

I just had a $65.00 bill today with Ofoto. I save a ton by using digital since I only print the best ones and as I'm ready to scrap them or use them for gifts. I'm sure I've spent several hundred dollars this year already.

I pay about $9.00 a roll which includes:

2 sets of 4x6 prints
1 free 5x7 for each roll developed

Whick I love because I have 1 set to scrap with and one set to keep in a photo album.

I know we've saved a ton by going digital. I haven't had a roll of film developed in over a year and a half. (I know I have a few laying around here somewhere waiting to be developed though.) When we used film, we would have 10-20 rolls per trip. And DH insisted on processing at Wolf Camera. Sure we got either a free second set or a free CD, but the first set wasn't cheap to begin with.

Now for the expenses of going digital. DH bought me a photo printer about 8 months ago. I use the CM inkjet photo paper because I feel that's the safest - other's I've tried do not seem to be acid-free, or the quality just isn't there. Ink cartidge replacement isn't cheap, but at least I just replace the color(s) that are out not a single cartridge when necessary. So far I haven't printed off that many photos cuz I'm not ready to scrap them yet.

In the long run I think it would be cheaper to use an online service to make prints of my digital photos. But I'm an impatient person and need instant gratification. When I'm ready to work with particular photos I want them at hand. Also by printing them myself I have lots more flexibility of size. I'm not limited to the usual 4x6, 5x7 or 8x10 - I can print those plus any other sizes I define.

DH bought me a HP photosmart digital and the HP printer a couple of years ago -
but the qualities of the photos were to inconsistent! I also didn't LOVE the quality when printed by a service!

I LOVE my SLR - I have a million BEAUTIFUL pics that I took over the summer - and I know I would NEVER get the quality with my digital!

I pay about $10 a roll with free doubles (as long as I go on Wednesdays) but they are hand processed by a local photographer who checks EVERY photo for clarity etc.
I wish I could get the same thing out of my digital :(

I've got a Nikon Cookpix 2500. I'm amazed at the quality photos I get from it. Even photos I took at less than the 2.0 mp and blown up to 8x10 and printed on regular paper, the quality is fantastic. The printer DH bought me is the Epson photo stylus 960. I just have to make sure I use the right printer settings for the type of paper and you can't even tell that I printed them.

(Another thing I like about my digital - I can take several shots of the same thing without increasing film/processing costs. And I know instantly if I got the photo I wanted or if I need to retake it. I guess it also helps that DH is a gadget man and has to have the biggest memory card available. :p )
