How much do you pay OOP on the DDP?

I just posted our ADRs on the 'Where are you dining? Post your ADRs here' thread. As I was glancing at where others are eating I realized we had alot more OOP meals than most of the people posting. I hadn't really thought about it. We eat where we want and the free dining is just a plus. We're hoping we can share some meals, but if we can't it's not a big deal, we'll just pay OOP. Anyway I was just curious if other peole found they were still spending alot OOP for meals? By the way my mom is a very brittle diabetic and must eat three meals a day, so we normally do alot of TS anyway. Here's our ADRs. What do you think?

9/22
L Sci-Fi (OOP)
D Mama Melrose (Fantasmic PKG--DDP)
9/23
B Chef Mickey's (OOP)
D Rose & Crown (DDP)
9/24
L Chef de France (DDP)
D Tempanyaki (DDP)
9/25
L San Angel Inn (DDP)
D Marrakesh (DDP)
9/26
B Rainforest Cafe (OOP)
D Hoop de Doo (OOP)
9/27
B Konas (OOP)
D Whispering Canyon (DDP)
9/28
D Cape May (DDP)
9/29
B Trails End Buffet (OOP)
D Spirit of Aloha Luau (OOP)
9/30
B Donald's Breakfastosaurus (OOP)

Anyone else notice that they're paying quite a bit OOP? Despite having the free dining we're paying for eight meals OOP, including the two dinner shows (maybe less if we're allowed to share some).

DBF and I were at the World for 8 days with the dining plan and didn't spend a single OOP dollar on food...and we were NEVER hungry-quite the opposite really...we even had a counter service left over!!! We figured out that if we would have paid OOP pocket rather than with the DDP we would have spent close to $700!!! :woohoo: We will never go back without it!!!

We are paying for 4 meals OOP on our upcoming trip and we are already paying for our dining plan:
12/8 - Le Cellier Dinner (DDP)
12/9- All counter service meals
12/10- Chef Mickey Breakfast (OOP) and Ohana dinner (OOP)
12/11- Mama Melrose FDP (DDP)
12/12- CRT Dinner (OOP)
12/13 - Mexico early lunch (DDP) and Jiko late dinner (2 DDP)
12/14 - Coral CP once I can book it (DDP)
12/15- Ohana breakfast (OOP) and California Grill dinner (2 DDP)

I thought 4 might be too many to pay OOP but I realized part of the reason is bc we are doing to signature restaurants that require 2 credits each.
We typically do not eat 3 full meals a day, so we only planned a few days with 2 sit down meals in the same day and we will spread a our counter service meals out on the other days including our departure day 12/16. Also we are not huge breakfast people so most of our counter services will be lunches. We normally would not pay for all these meals on vacation, we will with the dining plan though bc we do not have to worry about pulling out our wallet so much. Also the ones we are paying OOP we do on the preset meals like the breakfast buffets or CRT which is a fixed menu price. That way no matter what we do not need to worry about how much we our spending while we our down there and we can order whatever we want on our DDP meals without worrying about the bill being too high.

In Oct we have some oop meals planned:

Norway princess breakfast
Lilo & Stitch breakfast-Ohana
Donald's breakfast in AK
Crystal Palace breakfast
Spoodles breakfast-twice
Sci-Fi-lunch
Brown Derby -lunch
Cape May Cafe-dinner

We plan to use our DDE card for these meals.

Using the dining plan we plan:
Multiple CS lunches
Rose & Crown dinner
Chefs de France-dinner
Wolfgang Puck-dinner
Kona Cafe-dinner
Ohana-dinner
Flying Fish-dinner
Le Celliar-dinner
2 CS breakfasts somewhere
We also plan to pay for a lot of alcohol oop! :goodvibes

We will not go OOP for any table service meals. We will for two or three CS meals, I think. We don't share much so I think we will run out.

We don't share because DS has food allergies

DS and DD are meat eaters

DH and I are both vegitarians. I can not share with him because he finishes his huge CS meals :)

The only thing you may find is that you have left over cs credits because you are eating at so many sit down restaurants.

I would say that yes, you do have an unusually high number of OOP restaurants but if that stays with your eating habits (and you are willing to spend the money) go for it!

"What might be right for one may not be right for some, it takes different strokes to do the world yes it does, it takes different strokes to do the world."

We will buy our breakfast at the POP foodcourt each morning (bagle and cream cheese) before leaving for the parks except for one morning where we have Boma ADR so we will have to buy lunch or dinner that day probably a CS. We figure for a family of four for five days no more than about $150 if that even..

What are you doing with all your unused counter service credits???
just curious

I have my TS booked and none are 2TS. We'll do CS and snacks on DDP as long as we have credits and when we don't....we'll pay OOP. Simple as that. I'll let you know when I get back. ;) Since our family usually doesn't do TS, this is a real treat for us.

:offtopic: (Wish he were smiling!)
"What might be right for one may not be right for some, it takes different strokes to do the world yes it does, it takes different strokes to do the world."

Gotta agree with the sentiment, AND I just finished watching the IKEA commercial! :rotfl2:

We were at WDW for 9 full days/8 nights in May. I spent a total of $3 OOP for 1/2 gallon of milk (before I learned that I could have gotten a quart of milk as a snack credit.) We arrived at 9 am and left at 6 pm, so it really was 9 days...and we used our extra credits to get CS "to go" for an airport snack.

I can appreciate that a diabetic needs to eat 3 meals a day, but they are not 3 TS meals--and the calorie restrictions are way less than the typical WDW meal. Most WDW CS breakfasts would feed 2 on a 2000 kcal ADA diet.

It looks to me like you are paying for a huge number of meals OOP and that you will have way more food than you can possibly eat. Of course, that reflects my experience, and your's may be totally different.

We're also paying for a bunch OOP with the dining plan. Though part of ours is because we are doing a couple of 2TS signature dining meals.

Day 1:
Boma Dinner (OOP)

Day 2:
Spoodles Dinner (DP)

Day 3:
Jiko Dinner (DP)

Day 4:
Boma Breakfast (OOP)
Flying Fish Dinner (DP)

Day 5:
?Boma Dinner? (OOP we haven't decided if we want to book this or not, will probably just try once we get there if we liked Boma the first time)

Day 6:
CRT dinner (OOP, this was one of the least expensive meals we are eating so it didn't make sense to use the 2TS credits a person for it)

Day 7:
Coral Reef dinner (DP and OOP, we are treating my cousin and her new husband to dinner here, since they are just coming overnight they won't have the dining plan so we'll be paying OOP for them)

Day 8:
Artist Point dinner (DP)

Day 9:
?Boma Breakfast? (OOP another not sure about meal if we want it we will book once we are there)
Raglan Road dinner (DP)

Day 10:
Le Cellier Steakhouse (DP)

Day 11:
Nothing planned, I thought about Boma Dinner since we don't leave for the airport till 6pm, but since Boma opens at 5pm it doesn't give enough time so we are likely to just do CS meals this day.

So we have 3 OOP meals plus the treated meals at Coral Reef which makes 4 OOP meals. We also have 2 more possible OOP meals for a total of a possible 6 OOP meals for our 11 day stay. We are going for our 5th aniversery though and we don't have kids which makes signature restaraunts a bigger part of our stay, if we weren't going for our aniversery we would probably only have one OOP meal, maybe 2.

I think we maybe had 2 or 3 meals OOP last year, and we probably won't have any this year... if we do, it'll be no more than 3 I'm sure (and by that I mean a total of 3 for the 3 of us, not 3 meals each.)

I don't even think I'd want to spend that much TIME on TS meals, let alone spend that much more money when we get counter service meals with the plan as well. The plan works very well for our family the way it is, but I wouldn't mind if we had a few more meals thrown in and fewer snacks.

We didn't spend any money on OOP meals, and we were STUFFED the entire trip. We had 3 CS credits and 8 snack credits left on our card when we left. I know I should have grabbed the snack to go, but we ran out of time. ;)

We did buy a half gallon of milk OOP for the kids (2 & 3 at the time), and a couple of snacks/coffee drinks that weren't included on the plan at that time. We also tipped extra on every TS meal but one.

Spent $0 out of pocket.

Paid $500 for the plan, dining/snack receipts totalled $800+ for the trip, so no way we'll go back without it at the current price it goes for.
