I pay well over $4000 per year for my children to have Health insurance. That is a big chunk for a teacher in Oklahoma. I am also on the low plan.
My own insurance is covered, I think teachers got it paid by not getting a raise.
If I were to add a spouse, I would have to pay over $500 a month in addition.

My sons insurance is much less for his family. His also has lower deductables. I think his out of pocket max is $2000 where mine is $5,500 per year. He works for a well known discount store.

Coverage for spouse and I is $58 per week which is $3016 annually.
Our RX copays are 25,30, 50
Office visits to primary care doc are $30 and $50 for specialist

Basically - every year our coverage gets worse and worse and costs more and more.

Dental is an additional charge and is not included in the amounts above.

The coverage gets worse every year but thankfully it is paid by my employer 100%.

I get paid biweeky, and pay $30 per pay period for insurance. The coverage is pretty good.

$500 deductible, then they cover 90%
$25 office co-pays
$20 for 3 months worth of my medicine through mail order (Caremark)
1 free eye exam per year
They pay $250 for eyewear (glasses/contacts) each year, then they cover 90% of the cost above that - I only paid about $20 OOP for some really nice glasses (lenses included) this year
2 free dental cleanings per year
1 free flu shot per year

That's all I've had to deal with so far, so I'm not sure how the coverage is beyond that.

I have low premiums because I have a deductible to meet...I pay 28.00 every 2 weeks for family of 5 coverage. I also have vision and dental...vision is 3.00 every 2 weeks and dental is 18.00.

Medicare and supplement = $500 a month for 1 person.

This is a huge portion of medicare income.

I work for an insurance company so I have good coverage. I pay $15 a month for my HMO.

My coverage includes:

$1800 deductible on out of pocket expenses
$20 office visit/$35 specialist
$15 for generic prescriptions and $35 for brand and $50 for non formulary

There is other stuff but that is what I remember right now.

We don't pay a cent up here... well beyond being taxed to heavily... most of what we pay (we have a good accountant) in taxes we get back at the end of the year. Of course our coverage doesnt give us Dental, Prescription or Vision Care beyond basic neccessities due to our higher income, but all lower incomes can wualify and will never be found without proper care.

I am not trying to rant about our health care, because your system has plenty of better opportunities. We have longer waits for specialized services unless you are in Critical condition.

But I've always been curious about how heavily Americans are taxed? I'm sure that what you pay in extra health coverage you save in taxes. Which is the exact opposite for us. We pay lots in taxes to get basic care.

There is no Plus side for either of us I figure. It all works out in the wash as they say!

For a family of 4, we pay $216 per paycheck X 26 paychecks per year = $5616.00 per year.

Our insurance is going up another 5% on December 1st so our yearly premium for the next year will be $5911.00.

This includes:
$30 office visit co-pay
$35 urgent care co-pay
$175 emergency room visit co-pay
$500 outpatient surgery co-pay
$1000 hospital stay co-pay

DH and I are both public school teachers.

The co-pays have literally tripled in the past 3 years. It's crazy! When I had my 1st child 13 years ago, the hospital co-pay was $75 and that included my c-section, 3 days in the hospital and infant care. When I had my DS 10 years ago, the amount was $150 for the co-pay. 2 years ago it jumped to $500. This past year it went to $750 and in December it will be $1000.00.

This doesn't include dental or vision. For dental care we pay $30 per month with a $50 yearly co-pay on basic things and then LOTS of money or other procedures (a root canal co-pay is $700).

For vision, we pay $11 per month which includes one eye exam per year and $90 towards glasses or contact lenses every other year.

This poll is not really going to show a trend because the amount people pay is also based on whether it's an individual, a married couple, or a family (which is a lot higher).

For now, nothing as we're on the military's healthcare. If I was to switch to the "standard" program, we'd have the following: $150/individual or $300/family for E-5 & above deductible per year, 20% of allowable charges for covered service for civillian outpatient provider, $ 15.65/day rate (multi-day stay) or $25 charge per admission, whichever is greater for inpatient. Scripts are on a tier basis. Because I choose to be seen by military doctors, I pay nothing. I might get charged for scripts if I go to an urgent care, but I can submit reciepts and get paid back.

I am single without any children

$418 a month = $5016 a year

prescriptions are 15/35/75 (of course both of my monthly ones are 35 and 75 respectively so another $110 a month)

doctor co-pays are 25/40

All in all, I pay around $700 a month to stay healthy and ensure I have health coverage in an emergency (yes, just me!) :scared1:

I'm single and on the high deductible plan at work. I pay $36 every two weeks ($66 minus $30 credit for non smoker status). There is a $1150 deductible, then 80/20 after that. Yearly out of pocket max of $5000 or so.

DH is self-employed, and we buy our own insurance. We pay $1680 every two months or $10,080 per year. It goes up every year, and has doubled in the last 5 years. This is a good (not great) BCBS plan with $500 deductible for each of us, and then we pay 20% of costs after that. It does not include dental or vision; we pay those out of pocket. We are grateful we can afford it for now, but it is getting close to being raised to the point where we won't be able to afford it. Health care reform can't come too fast for me!

Until recently I was covered on my husband's insurance - and it was costing him around $650 per month!!!! It was good coverage: $20 for PCP and specialists. Prescriptions $5/10/25. ER copay: $50.

But once I became eligible for my own coverage at work, I switched off of his plan and got my own. We now each pay around $150 per month. My new plan has higher copays for some things, but other things that would have had a copay on the old plan are now covered in full (like lab work, routine physicals, etc.)

I pay close to $5,000 a year just for myself, me, one person. It's a plan through my school which we're required to have unless we're under the plan of a parent or spouse. It's good coverage though, with a low deductible for out of network physician visits. I'm just not happy with the prescription portion of the plan, since I wind up having to pay quite a lot for my medications.

I voted "under $500 per year" but that's not really the case.

My DH belongs to a union and no money is taken from his pay for family health insurance. We don't have a choice to take it or not to take it. We just have it. He does pay union dues and part of those dues fund the health care. But again, we don't have a choice to opt out and get a break on the dues. So basically, it is sort of "free" for us, but not really.

If I took health care through my employer (the Federal Government), a single policy would be about $50 per pay period (26 pay periods) are roughly $150 per pay period for a family policy.

My employer covers mine 100 percent. If both husband and wife work there or the wife/husband has better coverage someplace else then they can opt out of the coverage at work and they will get a buy out check yearly of a few thousand. Or you can keep both coverages like many do and have both the husband and wife have a family plan and then the secondary plan covers all the co-payments etc so you don't have any out of pocket. We dont have a deductible for Dr visits or anything but if you go in the hopsital there is a one time yearly deductible of 200.00

We pay 90.00/month for medical insurance. Including dental/vision it is around 140/month.

2200 deductible.

100 deductible/per yr per person on meds and then it varies with the cost of each med. Maintenence meds are usually 40/every 90 days worth.

Once we reach our deductible we pay 10% of the bill, instead of a copay. Which is great if you are just running for doctor visits. However, if you have something more serious it ends up being $$$. The copays are 40.00 so we would rather do the 10%. It is a crapshoot.

So in the end we probably end up spending 4000-5000 per yr.

I just added ours up for a family of 3, and it's $6,240 per year - YIKES! Didn't realize it was that much. I pay $240 every 2 weeks. And it's not very good insurance.:sad2:

$20 copay for plan drs.
$50-$70 copay for out of plan drs (which most of our drs are)
$1000 deductible per person I believe (we never meet it so I don't know for sure).
ER is $100 or $150 deductible depending on which ER
No dental or vision

It's ridiculous! And I'm sure it will go up more next year. I'm so worried that we won't be able to afford it much longer. :scared1: That's why I keep saying we NEED healthcare reform!

My DH had a lot cheaper insurance at his job, about the same as far as coverage, but a lot cheaper. But they basically eliminated health insurance at his company and then he got laid off, so we all switched to the family plan at my job. We tried a couple other insurance companies on our own, but because my DH takes a medication for his heart, they wouldn't even consider him or if they did, it was even more expensive. This healthcare situation is just horrible!:sad1::mad:
