How much do you pay for AAA,worth it?

Thanks for all the advice! Now, where to purchase AAA??? I went online to get the quote (IM in NJ by the way..home of the skyrocket car insurance rates..lol)

I had AAA a few years ago in Eastern Montana. I got it for road service in case I got stuck somewhere with my baby. Well, I had a flat tire about 1.5 miles from home in early Dec (snow and very windy)and needed them to come and change the tire. Called them from the car, said they would send someone right away. About 20 minutes later they called me back to say they didn't have any contracts for service in the area, so I should just get it fixed and send them the bill.

So I called my husband and he walked to the car to help me.

Then I called AAA and fired them.

I now have road service with my cell phone.

Wow! You guys all have some interesting stories about AAA! We pay $125/yr. for DH and I and that is for AAA plus RV. We would never go without it. We have had it for so long now that if we cancelled, I'm sure that would be the day that one of our vehicles would break down! They say that you can only have 3 calls per year, luckily we don't use them all up as quickly as we used to years ago. We now own two "newer" vans ('96 and '94)and so not as much need for AAA but sure glad that we have it. We travelled to NH a few years back and found out that AAA cannot be used on the thruway for instant free towing, but that if you bring the receipt in after the fact, they will reimburse you for the tow. That was the year that the waterpump went 1/2 way through our trip and the closest garage that had time to fix us was in timbuktu.....and I am not kidding, the mechanic was in overalls and barefeet with a shotgun against the wall and barking hound dogs in the yard!! Nevertheless, they got us fixed and on our way at a reasonable cost and when we returned from our trip, we stopped in at the AAA office and got our $80 back that we had to pay for the tow. Well worth the membership. Did we get any discounts for Disney? Nope. Called 6 months before our trip and ASMovies was all out of AAA rooms already(which makes no sense b/c the hotel was fairly empty when we were there in Nov)and we ended up using a deep discount code for our rental car and for the plane, so oh well!! LOL

hmm, I was a member for nearly 20 years, but will never use them again. My wife had to use the lock service twice while I was traveling one year, and later, we broke down in downtown Washington DC while vacationing, and waited 3 1/2 hours on a dangerous street for the aaa tow truck. We finally got one another way and called aaa to cancel. THey had no record of our original call. later that year, July 30, I had a flat tire in the country bringing my 2 girls and 3 others back from swimming. I was informed that I had used my 3 services for the year and would have to pay cash for the tow. I had no cash. The girls were in swim suits, no shoes, we were completely stranded. My membership renewed on July 31, but they would not simply start my new year 12 hours early, even though it had been pre-paid by CC. They would not let me use my CC to pay them for this tow. They showed my call for a tow in DC as my third use, even though they never actually sent a truck and told me I could call on monday to dispute this......, Absolutely no sympathy to my situation. I asked about cancelling the 31st membership and just filing a new one to start immediately and she said since she already knew I was in need of a tow, she would not do that for me. A farmer raised the back of my van with his front loader while I risked my neck changing the tire. AAA put me and my family at risk twice that year, I had no tows at all that year, but they charged me for all 3 services and were incredibly callous about it. Some service company if you ask me. I use Texaco road star, with 5 uses per year, they are friendly and flexible with more towing companies than AAA and offer discounts as well.

I just received a letter in the mail from AAA warning me that I used up my 3 services for the year (2 flats & battery) and the next service call would be at my expense! I am so annoyed! Cant wait till monday so i can call them.

I don't want to cancel...they've really come through for us and a lot of the discounts are great! sigh.

Yes, I think Walmart does, although that's not the one I am using. There is a link on the AAA website which will allow you to enter your zipcode, I think, and find the pharmacies in your area. When I took the info to my pharmacist, he had to call the number on the back of the "pharmacy" card which I got in my AAA statement. He set it up with them from that number. He told me that the customer service dept. he dealt with was the nicest ever.

Thanks for your reply! I went to the site and printed out my discount card to give to the pharmacy.

I use AAA all the time for discounts on movie tickets, trip tix, free maps for anywhere, travel guide books, and travel discounts as well as road side assistance. I can't tell you how much I love them!!! It's just icing on the cake that I also get a disney discount

In ND you get 4 free Roadside Assistance calls per cardholder, per year

So It might be different depending on the state you live In(Just thought I'd mention this since a few people have mention you only get 3)...

We are travelling with my best friend's family. They are AAA members. Can she book both our rooms and get the discount for both of us? That would be awesome :aok: And if so, if AP codes come out making it cheaper, can we change from AAA rates to AP rates? Thanks :)

Only thing I was foolish with was I should have had my son call with the flat tire we had! Both of us were in the vehicle but I put it on mine - then a week later I had to have the vehicle towed. So in January I already have 2 items for the year. Considering he was is at college with no car most of the year it would have been a LOT smarter to do him on the tire. (Course we haven't used it for 4 years or more so hopefully I can hold out another 10 months!)

Is AAA still giving out the free parking pass if you buy WDW park tickets?

We got AAA basic again last spring in order to save $ for our Disneyland trip. I think the charge is $30 for one member and another $46 for each spouse/child/etc. added to the membership. Got our money's worth right off the bat with discounted tix for DL and SeaWorld, also saved $ on the hotel room, got free Triptix (detailed driving map with loads of travel info), and several free maps.

Really got a deal by switching to AAA insurance later last year -- saved about $200/year between car and home ins.

Plus, used a free tow when I had a minor accident with one of the cars a couple months ago. Took the tow truck a while, but it was the first storm of the winter -- was close to home, so a neighbor drove me home and DH met the tow truck driver at the car.

One disappointment is that here in UT you can't purchase WDW tickets at your local AAA office -- unless you book one of the packages with a AAA discount. But you do still qualify for one of the room-only AAA discounts.

All-in-all, I've been very happy with AAA.
