How much do you pay babysitters?

Our sitter is coming tomorrow from 4:30-9ish we will pay her $50 for 2 kids. Plus money for take out. I bought extra soda and snacks today. Having a good sitter is important to us and is well worth the money.

I live in the suburbs of Virginia and I pay $8 to $10 per hour for 5 kids plus bonuses when warranted.

Wow!!!! I guess I am really really lucky... My sister and I trade sitting favors
I would never ever consider taking money from her.. and I wouldnt ever expect her to ask me for any... Our boys are both 10 and she also has a dd6
for the kids it is more like a sleep over party... I couldnt imagine paying a sitter $10 hr when you only make $13 yourself.. doesnt seem worth going anywhere.. when you only have $3 to spare.. you cant even by a cheap meal for that...
When I was babysitting .. granted it was 20 yrs ago.. I got $1 hr for 2 kids ..
a 4yr old and a infant... makes me wonder if I was getting ripped off back then...
Now my mom watches my ds for 2hrs a day and I wouldnt expect her to ask me for anything Is that wrong ??? until she started watching him 2 months ago she hardly ever saw him... I just think it is Grandma Time and as a grandma she Needs to do it.. One of the best parts of my childhood was spending time with my grandparents. I still have to talk to my grandma at least once or twice a week...
sorry to kind off subject ... but I was just amazed at what people are paying.

It definitely seems to depend on the part of the country. In South Florida and Michigan, I pay about $5 to $7 for high-schoolers, but $10 an hour for an adult.

I pay my DD(14) $3/hour to babysit her younger brother (7). This is her 3rd summer of babysitting him while we work. We let her take Red Cross babysitting/CPR class when she was 12. It has worked out great. She earns her spending money for the year and doesn't bug us for money all the time.

My next door neighbor ocasionally babysits for me. She is an older retired lady and I pay her about $5/hour to watch DS(7). Which she thinks is too high, but I make her take the money anyway!

My daycare used to charge $20/day, $35 for two kids.
