I added "More than the recommended amount" so I could vote.:teeth:

I don't know how they do it. It seems like they're working 24/7. I've always tipped more than what's suggested.

How many people were in the cabin?

Still have not found an answer to my question on this poll, when you say "per traveler" do you mean, for instance, if you have 5 people, and the TOTAL in tips for ALL cruise personnel was $500.00...then you would pick the "$100.00 per traveler" option??

You are talking about Totals for all cruise personnel per person right?

DH and I have been on 4 cruises, only 1 on DCL. We feel like the server/steward, etc. budget their money and depend on getting the minimum amount recommended. If they only do their job and nothing else, that is what we give them. Now, if they do a great job, are more personable, ie. towel animals in our room or remembering that I like the cheese course first and not last at dinner or remember our drink preferences (you get the picture), we tip more. We've learned by experience that tipping the bartender, on the spot, every other drink or so, our drinks are stronger. On RCCL we had a poolside waiter that was also a bartender we only ordered our drinks from him and each drink had an extra side to it :) We also tipped him more at the end of the cruise. He worked his butt off to remember passengers names, drinks, etc.
Anyway, to answer your question. On our 7 night cruise in Jan. our family of 4 will bring at least $100 per person for the recommended tips so $400, but probably $450. We'll bring about 50 - $1 coins for room service, bartenders, poolside wait staff, etc. For the kids clubs staff, it seems like they like the wal-mart gift certificates so we'll bring some of those as well. Our tipping budget will be $500.
Hope this helps

Nadege was our server on our cruise last May. She had just been promoted -- our week was her last week before moving up. She was absolutely fantastic. It's nice to hear she is still there.

jvas, $75 in total to all DCL staff (except RS) each traveler

dvcreg, thanks, tried to add myself, but it's moderators only

On each of our three cruises with DCL, we never had anyone doing less than his/her expected job. Those few who seemed to just be going through the motions, doing the least amount of work, etc got the minimum recommended. However, most really knocked themselves out to provide great service, so we adjusted those tips up a little bit to show our appreciation. I like the phone card idea too. I'll pick some up at BJ's to bring along on our next cruise. Wal-mart cards for the kids' counselors as well.
