With recommended tipping (7nt) per Passporter at around $76 (not counting room service), our party of 6 is faced with additional expense of $456. I am curious as to how many of you tip that much.

I suggest you perhaps add...
Do you tip MORE than the recommended amount.

Cheers,
Grumbo

I think you should change the first option to tip the recommended amount $75, then add another couple of options - tip $76-$100, tip $100+

I have never, in 6 cruises just tipped the recommended amount, even when there were 5 in our group. The service has always been so awesome. We usually tip about $90-$100 per person.

I also tip more than the recommended amount for outstanding service. Never have tipped under, but there have been a few times where I have been tempted. Gary my stateroom host this past February was awesome, I'm now wishing I would have had some phone cards to add in with the extra $. This next cruise I definately plan to bring lots of phone cards.

We always tip at least the recommended amount. Usually more plus phone cards.

The service was excellent - had no problem tipping more than the recommended amount.

I voted for "The recommended amount: $75-$100 total per traveler" because that was the highest choice. In reality, I tipped well over $100 per person for our family of four on both of our Disney Magic cruises.

I'm surprised how the OP structured this poll. I can only assume the OP has never been on a Disney cruise, and thus may not be aware of the level of service or how hard the server, assistant server, head server, and stateroom host/hostess work (with no days off for months at a time).

I Tipped MORE than recommended because in my opion they each did MORe than I expected.

I tipped about 1/3 more than recommended.

Hi all..................
there will be 5 of us going on the 4 day cruise....3 in 1 cabin
and 2 in another.............tell me if these tips look sufficient, as I like to tip "decent"..........

stateroom host.....
2 person cabin......$35.00
3 person................$50.00

restraurant server........(for all 5)........$90.00
assit. server..................(all 5).............$60.00
head server....................(all 5)...........$34.00

would you go higher?...info is appreciated.

In our 3 previous Disney cruises I have always tipped more than the recommended amount - except the first cruise and the head server. The first time we saw him was Thursday night - too much, too late for me. We did give half the recommended amount - now that I have travelled more and realize all that they do would I do the same? Can't answer that because we have had some great times with head servers since and I am just not sure that they shouldn't have time to stop at each table at least every other night.

I agree with others who have suggested adding the option for "tipped more than the recommended amount". From reading these posts, it sometimes seems that everyone is signing over a month's paycheck to the waiters!

Dh and I tipped about 20% more on our first cruise. The service by all was more than wonderful. We even gave a smaller tip to the host for the rooms adjacent to ours. He was very helpful to us on our first day and was always very friendly and nice to us when we saw him in the hall during the cruise. BTW, when we offered him the tip, he didn't want to take it! Thought that was pretty incredible!

now when you say "per traveler" are you talking about $76.00
in tips per traveler for to be divided between all cruise personnel....?

We tipped the reccommended amount for each person EXCEPT for our stateroom stewerd who was incredible...we gave him $65.00 for the 4 day.

We tipped the recommended amounts for everyone BUT our cabin steward. We doubled his amount because he was just terrific!!

We tipped more than the recommended amount. Everyone was fantastic to us...even our head server Nadege. She stopped & talked to us & the kids every single night. We went in with the amount budgeted & it just felt right to give more.

We have tipped 1 and1/2 times the rec amount for out servers and stateroom host on or past 4 cruises. Asst server about $20 extra. But if they didn't deserve it I wouldn't hesitate to tip accordingly.

We went on our first cruise in April, and we gave everyone 30% more, except our head server, Erik, who was rather arrogant and not a pleasure to be around. We gave him just the recommended amount. We also gave a phone card to each person, and I'm so glad I had read the recommendation on this board to do so. Our cabin host thanked me profusely for the phone card - he was celebrating his 5th wedding anniv the day we were to arrive back in Port Canaveral, and was planning to use the card to call his wife in Jamaica. He was so grateful for the extra thought - it really does go a long way.

For those of you who give the phone cards out as an extra perk, what is the dollar value of the phone cards? Most of the cards I see around are $10 or $20. Just curious!

Lisa

We also tipped over the recommended amount. The service was great and they earned it.
