Hello all! My hubby had a phone interview for a position at Patrick AFB, near Melbourne Florida. I would be leaving my job running the computer lab, but wouldn't mind going back to subbing. Does anyone have any clue how much subs make per day in this area? Any other advice on housing and school would also be appreciated. LOL Thanks, Jenn :goodvibes

Where we live, across the state, you need a bachelor's and must be certified in Florida. Still, they're not taking applications at this time. My s-i-l has her Masters in Education and was subbing in Cocoa Beach but I think they stopped using substitutes due to cutbacks. Maybe you should just check the Brevard Schools website.

Good luck.

:)

Don't plan on being in the teaching field around here. They are cutting staff left and right and with all the shuttle workers losing jobs there's going to be huge jump in unemployment. On top of that, our new Gov is slashing schools budgets big time and ours is going to take a huge hit, almost $49 million. Parents are very unhappy, especially when he said he wouldn't cut the budget.

Thanks for your honest replies. That definately puts a kink in our plans. Keep the advice coming.

Our schools use as few subs as possible. Our new Gov has just proposed more cuts to education, so it doesn't look good for our current teachers, never mind subs. Sorry.

Your governor's twin brother must live in Indiana. :confused3:confused3Our gov is doing the same thing up here. It is amazing at all the outcomes that these politicians want, but at the same time, they are giving the schools less and less money! Hmmmm??

In MI, in my DD6 school, they use the gym teacher, the office staff, and move around class assistance from KG rooms as needed. All KG have a teacher and an assist, and if either of her teachers call in, they just use the other. No sub, or anything. They cancel gym, or what have you if the gym teacher calls in.
Not FL, but I bet if they are doing it here.. they are doing it elsewhere.

They have no music this year (I guess singing in the class room?) and the art budget was eliminated as well. For 2011-2012 they will be doing an auction and fund raisers to try and get one.
Parents have to bring in art supplies, or they don't do projects. I don't mind at all, we are very fortunate, but I know that it is tough for some parents in the class. The start of the year list of supples was well over 100$s worth of items and they are asking for donations for replacing .. glue, construction paper, napkins, spoons, paint ect If we were in a situation where 10$ -20$ a month would make a diff to us, this would be even tough.

I'm in Indian river - one county south and we are still adding on subs right now and we are still using subs. That being said, we are using former teachers from our school for everything. Sub pay is about 100 to 150 a day for a masters degree, I think, to answer you question
