How much did you pay for your flight?

I know this depends on time of year, and when you book but I’m trying to get an idea of an average price.

Flying DTW>MCO round trip for main cabin is about $300/person. What did or are you paying?

I’m looking to buy tickets from BWI to MCO and right now tickets are around $300-$400 per person for SW and the “better” airlines (I refuse to fly on the budget airlines with their nickel-and-diming and having to pay to bring luggage) but Google says this is high so I’m waiting a bit to see if they go down, and they should (our trips in January). Looks like average round trip tickets from BWI to MCO are typically around $150-$200 per person. Waiting to hopefully get closer to that price point. We always drive down because my oldest is terrified to fly, but she’s not going this trip. So not used to flying there, but looking forward to not making that loooong drive.

I agree but I have to point out that the big ones charge too unless flying first class or you have their credit card.

Obviously not to the extent where they charge for a carryon but still they are all nickel and diming us.

SW just does it a different way with EBC or A1-15 upgrades or even looking at their fare classes when you are sitting in the exact same seat.

Our spring break flights are now up to $818 per person round trip on SW.

We booked as soon as the schedule was released for $505 a person.

If SW didn't offer the direct flights we would certainly be using one of the big 3 instead.

It’s about $250 round trip for us mid November - EWR/MCO. Jetblue, includes checkin and carryon. Seat selection used to be included which they now charge $10-$20. Total cost down is $140 and $110 for the return.

I’ve been using Google but it’s not accurate because Spirit is consistently the cheapest. Spirit and Delta are the only direct flights and after a bad experience, we refuse to fly Spirit.

I always find it worth it to up my fare to Business on Orlando flights to ensure overhead space. On my last flight everyone in late B/all of C group had to gate check their bags due to all of the bins being full.

When we arrive at MCO baggage claim it seems like at least a 1/3 of the plane has the rolling 20" suitcases with them before the first checked bag arrives on the belt.

You can take Spirit out of the search parameters and get an accurate history.

When we arrive at MCO baggage claim it seems like at least a 1/3 of the plane has the rolling 20" suitcases with them before the first checked bag arrives on the belt.

Both MCO and BWI have awful waits for baggage claim. I would rather not deal with it. I also don't bring a rolling suitcase and use an Osprey travel bag that is way smaller than some of the stuff I've seen people bring into the cabin.

Try unchecking Spirit under "airlines" before you search. You can customize departure time, bag inclusions, airlines, number of stops, etc.

We were originally booked on JetBlue but they changed our return flight to a really stupid time so I started looking for alternatives and was shocked to see Delta so cheap. We ended up getting super cheap upgrades to FC too…I have been lucky with getting cleared for them as a lowly silver but my partner has no status and I was worried about us getting separated so when I saw the algorithm dip so low I pounced.

Southwest should have a fare sale soon that includes January. My DCA-MCO flights in Sept are $37 each way from a fare sale over the summer, and my Dec flights were less than 4000 pts each way. I am flying on weekdays though. SW was very high when the rates came out for March, so I booked with American pts - 9,000 one way and 12,500 the other. Recently got a Jet Blue credit card which comes with 80,000 pts so I may try them some too in the future.

RX meds
Valuables (jewelry you may need, computer/camera)
change of clothes in case your luggage gets lost.

When I travel for work I usually check all my stuff except my computer tote bag, and I can toss my RX's & toothbrush in there and put it under the seat - but honestly I'm short and have a issue reaching the overhead area myself without hitting someone with my bag. If I didn't struggle with getting my bag up there I'd go carry on only - seems silly to check a bag for a 1 or 2 night stay.

Sorry I was referring to the carry on suitcases. Most meds and valuables can be carried in a bag like you mentioned. Medical equipment can be carried separately in its own case (which can also store the valuables/meds) and of course is exempt from carry on rules.

I can certainly understand the change of clothes but in my example was for MCO which is full of families. They might be able to get everyones change of clothes in a carryon but they seem to have 3 rolling carryons for a party of 4 and then waiting for luggage.

If we could we would be carry on only so we wouldn't have to wait at baggage claim but there are certain products that we need to last a week with and will not comply with the 3-1-1 policy of TSA. With SW giving free bags it is much easier for us to check it then have to roll it through the airport, put it on the TSA belt etc.

I was going to say that also. We never use the overhead bins and put our duffels under the seat. I’m always perplexed when I see women put their purses in the overhead bin, why??
