My 27-year-old DH (Can I call him immature??? Do grown men play with these? :sad2: Anyways...) bought himself a PS3 for his birthday.

In our basement in a Rubbermaid bin we have our old PS2 and games and accessories.

DH "says" he will hook it up and play it down in our basement when he has his buddies over, but I am not crazy. Nobody is playing that old thing when there is a PS3 upstairs! :rotfl:

I am contemplating selling all of it and using him use that money towards PS3 things.

Does anyone have any idea how much we could get on Craigslist for these things...?

PS2 with all necessary cords
Two PS2 (Sony) remotes with extension/lengthening cords
Guitar Hero guitar with three Guitar Hero games
20 other popular PS2 games

Thanks!

Edited to add... to all of you who are worried about me throwing out his games without his consent... here he is over my shoulders waving at you saying that selling them is OKAY.

DS just brought his PS2 into EB Games last night and the clerk there told us the console, power cords and 1 controller will get $15 worth of credits. Unfortunately our controllers were not in very good condition so we couldn't get anything for them. He also brought in a bunch of games and ended up getting $92 for the lot. The more popular games can trade for up to $22. Now, we are in Canada but I would imagine EB Games (Gamestop) would possibly do the same thing there.

My 32 year old plays with his PS2. It's a good way for him to unwind and just let himself be. I don't mind and don't think it's immature. It's not my thing just like reading brainless romance novels to unwind isn't his thing.

If this PS2 isn't yours then I wouldn't sell it. That is his way to enjoy. I know he know has a PS3 but I understand that it doesn't play all the PS2 games. He and his buddies might want to play those. Talk to him about it if he wants to sell them or trade them in at gamestop, which I imagine is the better option.

I found this ad on my local craigslist:

"PS2 console plus 30 games. 2 wired controllers plus 1 wireless controller 2 memory cards and dvd remote controller. everything woks good. games consist mainly sports Madden, NCAA Football, NHL, nba live, nascar, baseball pro and college, march madness and tiger woods titles...many years of each. asking 250 or OBO. "

It sounds similar to what you're offering, except with a few more games. I'd probably do $200 OBO.

You could also trade it all into a GameStop, and they'll give you credit to buy PS3 stuff. I'm not sure how much they'd give you for it, though.

i don't think video games or playing video games is immature... but you can look at craigslistings in your area and see what the going rate is.

is he sure he can't use any of his old ps2 games on his ps3?

i reccomend trading into gamestop though. i traded in 5 or 6 wii games and had a TON of store credit from it.

As a gamer, do not sell your DH's PS2. Right now they are plentiful because people like you are foolish to go and sell it.;)

PS3 is not backwards compatible with the PS2 which makes it a requirement to keep. They will go up in value.

If they're his games, then I wouldn't sell them. You wouldn't like it if he went through your stuff and decided he didn't want you to have some of it and sold it.
As long as he isn't missing work or neglecting homelife, then playing his games isn't immature. Let him have his fun.

Now if he doesn't care if you sell it, then I agree with PPs on Gamestop.

:scared1:
Of course grown men play with those, and grown women do, too! You're not implying that I'm immature because I'm a gamer, are you? :sad1:
;)

I agree. Unless he has one of the backward compatible PS3s, he'll need his PS2 to play any PS2 games that he still likes. We have all the new consoles but we still play our older ones on occasion (with the exception of the PS2, since our PS3 is backward compatible). Not as often as the newer ones, but they are still fun every once in a while.

If he decides he does want to get rid of the PS2 stuff, I agree with the previous recommendation of going to Gamestop.

Go to your local Craigslist and see what others are selling theirs for.

Ours has this ad:

I have a working-perfectly PS2 that I don't play anymore.
It comes with 2 controlers, one 8mb memory card and a headset.
and 14 games $80 firm

You are going to get much more selling it on your own that taking it to a game reseller (retail stores like GameCrazy).

I am a 44yo wife and mother and I am playing "Left For Dead 2" on my NEW XBOX360. I finally caved and I am learning first person shooter games.

Also, Final Fantasy 13 comes out in March so the time had finally come to cave in and buy a new system.:rolleyes1

Unfortunately, older systems don't bring in much money. Here are a few completed auctions on eBay where they had the console and 20 games. You can check the games if you want at the links, but the games you mentioned really don't bring much in resale. I've never seen sports games hold a value.

$91.88

$60.00 This auction had a lot of sports games

$113.38

You could always advertise them and who knows who might come along, but for the most part, I think you'd be better off letting hubby keep them. Even if he doesn't play them much, if he gets any enjoyment from them, IMO, it would be worth it. You can also take them to Game Stop/EB Games to see how you'd fare, but IMO, with sports games, you won't get much.

Sports are a dud, but the popular RPG's go up in value.

Ok, I am reading the OP again and I don't see sports games mentioned. I thought I had read Madden, Tiger Woods, etc... You didn't change your post and pull a trick on me did you OP? :lmao:

There are a lot of RPGs and shooter games that will bring in a descent price if you have them.

OK, so I'm not totally crazy yet. I did read this, just not in the OP! :rotfl:

I highly doubt they will get anything near $250, but hey, you just never know who might come along. I once heard someone say, what you have is worth no more, or no less, than what someone is willing to pay for it. No one can argue with that logic.

You might be remembering that from my post, I posted up a local craiglist ad that had those games mentioned. :flower3:

I think if I were you, OP, I'd try and sell that stuff before I took it into Gamestop. I feel like my brother took in a bunch of his xbox360 games to trade in, and they offered him less than $5/game - and he had several of the RPG/shooter games that are worth a lot more than that. Gamestop would probably be a good second option, if you can't unload them on craigslist.
