Hello all!
The wife (beautiful lady that she is! {yes, she will probably be reading this thread, :flower3: }) asked me to ask you all about some clothing info / ideas.
I tried searching, a million posts came up that don't really address what I want, and I am generally terrible at using search tools. I looked over the "Packing List" thread, but that doesn't really give amounts of clothes to bring.

Anyways...
We are going to be at Fort Wilderness for a week in October. How much in the way of clothing should we plan on bringing for each person? 6 "days" worth of clothes, more / less? I figure we will be using the laundry machines at some point. We are also planning on bringing some "cool weather" clothing (sweats, light jackets, etc...). Oh, we are driving, so we have to figure in 2 days of driving down and 2 days of driving back, with 5 days "on the ground" at Disney.

We usually don't camp more than 4 days, so this will be our longest trip so far. A friend suggested bringing 3 pairs of comfortable shoes, to let shoes "rest" between use.

Thanks for any replys, and if people want to just post links for me to read that is fine!

I usually over pack. I bring two sets of clothes (outfits for the women) for each day. One set warm weather and the other for if the evenings get cold. My DH wears shorts anytime of the year so he brings a pair of shorts and a long sleeve and a short sleeve shirt to wear. Two bathing suits....same concept as the shoes. Flip flops for the comfort station or going to the pool. Plenty of sox!!!! We are/were in the army....can't have enough. And finally a rain coat that is small enough to fit in a small bag while touring the world.

That is all that I can think of......I am sure plenty of people will add some good ideas and some funny ones too.

Our last trip down we were at FW for 12 days. Since we went in the winter (Christmas) we needed clothes for all sorts of weather. Typically we leave in the AM from home all clean and in fresh clothes, we stop for the night and clean up and change in the AM, arrive at FW in the afternoon. Typically we have 4 days worth of clothing once we arrive (plus jackets and sweatshirts etc) Since we dont have room to store a lot of dirty clothing we usually wash the second day at FW and then every few days after that. This is with 2 adults and 3 teenage boys.
Your friend that told you about the shoes is right on the money, with all the walking required at FW and WDW in general, good comfortable shoes are a must. I sometimes wear 2 pairs of socks for some extra cushion.

Hope that helps

I used to bring clothes for however many days I was going to be there but about 4 years ago someone pointed out that usually people have 3 or 4 favorite outfits so why not just pack for half the days and then do laundry halfway through the stay. That's what I've done every trip since then. It saves on luggage as well. I work the laundry time into my itinerary. Usually I only have to do one load so it doesn't take too long.

Jenn : )

I'm thinking (guessing) you will not need too many cool weather clothes. I plan on bringing mostly all warm weather clothes for all of us for the last week of October and maybe a couple of light pullovers *if* there is a chilly evening. Last October it was warm to hot most days and evenings.

If you plan on washing clothes, then I wouldn't over pack. Maybe 7 outfits with a wash on your 4th day would be plenty.

Have a great time!

Thanks all... You're suggestions are basically what we are thinking. It is just reassuring to get some feed back from more experienced folk. See you at the Fort!

I spent 6 weeks in the swamps in North Carolina once with 2 pairs of socks and 2 pairs of underwear. Those were tough times.

My wife brings at least an outfit a day, along with a couple of sweatshirts, sandles, sneakers, and a rain jacket.

I travel light. I will bring a pair of underwear and a pair of socks per day, but if it's warm I wear sandals without socks. I take about 3 pair of zip off pants, maybe 3 pair of shorts, enough tshirts and hawaiian shirts for one per day, a sweatshirt or sweater, a rain jacket, a pair of sneakers, a pair of sandals and shower shoes. We generally stay 10 days.

Good thing you didnt bring up your recycled soap story.

How did you get to take so much?

Considering I was wearing one of the pairs of underwear and socks, it didn't take much room. The other pair was wasted 30 seconds after I hit the ground and found out there was no ground.

Gee, I thought the Ranger school was at Benning! What were you doing? Playing games with the 82nd?

ADDED: I've been over on the Community Board on some political threads. Man, those people are weird. The most one sided arguments I've ever seen outside of FOX.

A pair of underwear can last 4 days. First day-wear them normal. 2 nd say flip them around. 3rd day turn them inside out. 4th day flip them around again. :)

That's a tough way to find yourself

Well, it was no MACV recondo training, it had watered down a LOT by the time I went post Vietnam, and in fact I believe it was eliminated because it was considered redundant training for other schools that the Army operated at the time. It did teach me survival skills, and how to find my way out of the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. I met some interesting characters there - my favorite being one of the evaluators, Maj Shoop. I had an epiphany in a foxhole that was filling up with water, and learned a great appreciation for tile floors in bathrooms and dry shoes and socks. I came down with a really wicked rash in places I don't even want to think about now which was only cured with Campho Phenique. Burned like hell, though. I have never complained about food since this time, either.

Well, it was no MACV recondo training,

Yeah, I don't think some of that stuff is legal anymore! :lmao:

MACV was the wierdest group of people I was ever associated with in my military career. It was truly unique - in many ways. I'm proud to wear that patch on my right shoulder!

I also learned the importance of punctuality, which is my curse to this day. If you weren't at the LZ for the dustoff, you walked home.
