We are staying on property, using the bus transportation, etc.

I'm trying to figure out how much cash I need. Usually I like the convenience of using a credit card. I heard you can also charge things to the room.

I'll need cash for tips, but can I charge most everything else? What about the snack carts in the parks?

You will need cash for the snack carts. Prices run about what they do at a ball game or concert. ($3 waters, etc.) But I think you are correct that most everything else you can use a card for.

For most things you don't need cash. A lot of the carts now even take CC's. You can charge things to your room key also. Makes it a lot easier when the teens want to take off. For me I still like having cash in my pocket, though I don't carry as much as I use to.

take as much as you think you need but i charge everything to the room card and if you have young children or teens and you dont want your money spent you can diable their cards from charging

I only use cash. When I go solo (as I am this month), I'd say I spend about $500 over 8 nights. That inclues meals, souveniers, snacks, etc.

Deluxe lets you charge $1500
Moderate $1000

After you reach your limit you can pay it off then start over.

We have gone on several trips using only the room charge. I don't even remember any carts that didn't take plastic (room or credit).

About the only place you might run into trouble is Downtown Disney, where some places don't take room charge (like Lego, for exampe), but pretty much all take credit cards.

You might want some small bills for tips. but that's about it! Also, if you have Chase as your bank, there are plenty of ATM's just in case (other banks work there too, just have to pay a fee - $2 I think).

Something to be aware of, which we were not, was the one time we stayed at a value resort, they only pre-approve you for $500. Once you reach that limit, you are not allowed to charge anything further, until you go to customer service and ask them to pre-approve another $500.

Anybody that's been to Disney knows how quickly you can reach $500 when you are charging all of your meals, gifts, etc..

As someonelse poster earlier, the moderates and deluxes have higher limits, so it's not as big of a problem.

While most of the snack carts have the ability to charge things, they do this via wireless systems, and sometimes they are working properly, so it's always good to have a few bucks on you for snacks.

We've always stayed at deluxes and used the card imprint but I always take 500.00 cash with me and have never spents more than 100.00. Mostly grocery purchases at Sams or Goodings, cab fare from Amtrak. End up with about 450.00 in my pocket coming home. Its just a habit I got into from long ago, 500.00, 100.00 in small bills and the rest in 50.00's, 2 blank checks.
