You lost me at check card...
What they gave you to prove the check you were writing was from your account. Before debit cards were a thing but after your drivers license wasn’t enough anymore. They’d write the number from it on your check. If you didn’t have one some places would take a credit card in it’s place.
Way back and I mean it's been decades since retail outlets here accepted personal cheques, you needed 2 forms of ID; one with your picture (like a DL) and one major credit card against which the amount would be charged if the cheque bounced.
