How much are your kids school lunches?

It would be $200 for just lunch everyday for my 4 at school. I pack them lunch. They will occasionally buy a lunch. Maybe 1-2 times a month.

$2.30-2.60-elementary thru highschool.

Put $50 in each of 3 kids accounts at beginning of school year (2nd week of august) and they still haven't run out of money. All 3 kids prefer to bring leftovers or sandwiches to school food (not to mention the time to get through lunch line and actually have time to eat decreases expontentially with each grade level!) Plus I don't think adding "whole grain" to the breading around a highly processed crap meat hotdog/corn dog makes it "healthy".

A bit OT:

This year we also got a list of "suggested healthy" snacks to send with lunches or snacks in class. Sorry-100 cal snack packs are NOT in any way, shape or form a "healthy" snack!!

Since we have a garden, backyard chickens, eat wild game or grass finished meats my kids prefer home REAL food to the stuff masquerading as "food" in schools nowadays. The only saving grace is we have an active urban gardening coalition and 10 of the lowest income schools have gardens (which are incorporated into the learning plans) and 4 (or 5?) have greenhouses as well (all done through grants!). The goal is to have every elementary school to have a garden soon. AND we one the fight against industrialized food service to actually serve the food the kids grow Hopeful that one day soon there will be real food back in the schools
