How much are your kid's lunches? $4.25 here!

We are paying $2.00 a day and that includes the milk.

I'm a little confused- for those that find 3.00 and above for lunch pricey...what is it that you can pack for a lunch that is less than $15 a week besides PB&J?

Here is an example of a packed lunch that I used to take....
roast beef sandwich on white bread (sometimes turkey, sometimes a can of spaghettios kept in a hot thermos)
small pkg of chips (like the kind that come in the 10 pkgs per box)
2 oreo cookies (ok, I liked junk food)
1 juice box
1 pkg of carrots

I doubt I could do this each day for much less than 15 a week. Perhaps I could...I'm gonna have to do some math to find out : )

My DD takes her lunch sometimes and eats spaghettios and at .59 a can its a really cheap meal. Get a bag of chips at $3.50 and put in baggies, bag of cookies in baggies $3.50 and a bag of carrots $1.50 don't know how much juice boxes are but I am going to guess $2.50 for 10.

13.95 and I didn't even buy anything on sale or make the juice boxes, chips and cookies last 2 weeks which would bring the cost down even more.

Our lunch is 1.95 but its pretty bad. Its all processed entrees and canned veggies and fruits. I can do much better than that even on spaghettios!

...here's what I found out about my DD's $5 kindergarten lunch. The company makes all food from scratch which contains whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies. Also, the home/school association makes a profit from the lunches to help pay for extra educational programs for the kids. So there is a reason why nuggets and buttered noodles are so expensive.

$2.50 here which includes milk (white, chocolate or strawberry!) an entree a side and usually fruit (most of the time fresh fruit) They also have a snack bar which ranges from .40 - $1 and has fruits, gogurt, jello, sunchips, crasins, and some other typical snacks. At leat once every 2 weeks they have lucky tray day and every other Friday they get a surprise with their meal (a pencil, a folder, fun erasers, etc.)

Gosh ours is sooo much cheaper compared to others!! For my DD in 2nd it is 1.50. For my DS in 8th it is 1.60. That does include white or chocolate milk. I don't think I will ever complain!!

I live in Philly and all kids get free lunch and breakfast that being said in high school they have things they serve like hogies, or cheesesteaks that if the kids want them, they have to pay extra for, but you know how high school kids are, my daughter claims she doesn't like the free lunch and perfers to buy lunch, I usally give her 5 dollar's a day for lunch.

But after reading all these posts and the OP did the math I never realized how much I spending on lunch, I think we might have to cut back a little.

Our school lunches just went up this year! $3 for full paying kids, and less than a $1.00 (I think I saw $.40 on a for last week) for reduced fee paying families.... Staff is up to $4.00. Our school is in a smaller town of 3 elemetary schools and one school has a large majority free/reduced income families, so the lunch programs recieve a government kick back; hence the $0.40 lunches... The lunches meet federal guidelines for friuts and vegies, sugary options and so on, so forth. DS9 takes hot lunch only on certain days...

Wow it really varies doesn't it? My kids go to Catholic school in NJ and it is $2.75/day for an entree, 1.00 for a water bottle, and $1-1.50 for a dessert. Most of it is junk, so I pack most days and let them order a few meals like pizza that they really like.

I have to say though, I love when I look at the calendar early in the AM and realize that I don't have to make lunches that day.

I pay 1.75 a day for my dds each. The lunches include a milk(choc. reg or stawberry) the meal, a salad and a fruit.

I haven't read all the replies but our school lunch is also $4.25 a day. I've got twins in 1st grade and 4 month old twins at home. Once a week they can get ice cream which adds a dollar.

I also think it's crazy. We go to a smaller Catholic school and not many people buy lunch so they can't buy in bulk (I guess) and get a better price. At least that's what I've been told.

I let the kids tke lunch once a week. That's usually one more time a week than my husband and I get takeout lunch for ourselves.

I do know that our school (including the college that is also on the campus)takes no federal money at all so nothing is subsidized.

Ours are $3.25. With three kiddos that's almost $50 a week! I think ours cost a lot because the food is "catered" in instead of cooked at the school. I pack lunches every day I'm not running crazy in the morning. :rotfl:

$5/day, DD's school has lunched catered in. She is 3 years old, BTW.

My ds is in catholic school, and it is $3.50 per day. Milk was $67 for the entire year, with a choice of skim, 1%, 2%, whole or chocolate. I really like paying for the milk all at once. I never have to worry about sending in change. Pizza is $1.75 per slice. We pay one month at a time. We get a menu sent home, select the meals we want and submit it with payment. Then we get a menu back which clearly shows the days we have purchased. It makes it alot easier to plan for the next week.

$4.25 seems expensive, but I can certainly see it. I bring my lunch to work every day, and I'm definitely spending that much to pack mine -- but it's still cheaper than a $7.00 salad!

Elementary lunches went up to $2 this year. Ouch, some of you pay a lot of money & I'd make my kids bag it more often if it cost that much.

I am in Long Island, New York but our lunch is REALLY reasonable compared to lots here! $1.25, which includes Entree, Vegetable, Fruit (sometimes salad if the child wants it_ and white or chocolate milk. 50 cents will get DS a yummy ice cream dessert, too.

I work in the high school cafeteria and the lunches range from $2.00 or $2.25 depending on what the students get. Each lunch comes with three sides.
Choice of sides are milk, juice, carrot sticks, small bag of pretzels, fruit cup or fresh fruit, a fruit stick, or a small dinner salad. Some lunches come with mashed potatoes, or rice , or an egg roll, on the side sometimes depending on what is being served.

Our school district charges $1.80 for elementary school lunch. It includes entree, veggie, fruit and milk. Extra milk is .50. They just raised it this year from $1.65 last year. My son only likes a few of the lunches, so we pack them. They don't get a dessert option with the school lunch and he wants a treat (just like his friends that bring lunch).

I almost fell over...lunches at my DD's school are $4.25 a day! It's completely optional of course, but OMG!:scared1: Am I over reacting? I thought it would be nice for her and it would save me some time in the morning but at $765 for the year maybee not.:confused3

;) Lets get real...I have to pay for a DCL cruise!;)

Wow!! That's crazy!! I thought 2.85 was alot!!
