How much are the necklace cages for Pick a Pearl?

I'm debated whether I should get the cages before hand or let my girls pick them out once there. I will be purchasing two. Also, do you know if they are sterling silver? I can get sterling silver ones for $30 on etsy but think it would be fun for my girls to pick there's out there if they're not too outrageous. Thanks!

I would like to know this as well, how much time do I need to allow for the whole experience? 30 min?

Time needed depends on the number of guests in front of you. If someone gets twins or an unusual color it will take more time. We were fourth in line after paying and it took about 20 minutes. I don't remember if the cages were sterling silver.

Everything varies in price and metal quality. I feel like the cheapest cage that I noticed was around $20, but I wasn't looking too hard at those. I ended up getting twins, so my ceremony was a little longer than the people behind me who got a single pearl. They told us to come back in an hour so they could set my pearls in the pendant I chose, but if you just choose a cage, you wouldn't have to worry about that. Oh, and the chain is a separate cost from the cage. If you end up with a setting that you can't immediately wear (my pearls were attached to the setting partially with a glue, and they said not to wear it for 24 hours), they charge 99 cents for a small cardboard jewelry box to put it in too, LOL. So, we paid for: the pick a pearl experience, the chain, the twin pendant setting, and the box. I wanted to mention that so you'd be prepared!

It's a fun experience, and I'll probably do it again on our next trip!

You can get them much much cheaper on Ebay. I have taken them with me for years, pirates chest, key, apple, carriage, lots of different shapes. My oldest son is a jeweler, and has always found the quality of the pearls very high, and the settings very low.

It's more expensive at Disney, but not by much, unless you're just buying an el cheapo off eBay etc... Cages are sterling silver or gold. We splurged and bought the chains and cages at Disney, because we wanted a quality keepsake. Chain, heart cage and "picks" (we did 4 picks, with two necklaces and cages) came to around $200 I believe, which I thought was pretty good, since $70ish of that was just picking the pearls (IIRC it's $15 or 16 to pick?).

As for time, there was only a couple people ahead of us. From the time we started, I would say it was about 45 minutes to pick four pearls (all our pearls were over 7 mm and DD got a silver pearl), choose our settings etc... and pay.

I am pretty sure the ones at Disney were just plated. And not real silver. But I could be wrong.

So if I buy a cage at home I bring it and they put it in for me?

Depends on when you get there.

If you get there early, there won't be much of a wait. If you're there when it is busy... you might have to wait for 4-5+ people to do the entire song and dance.

You can put it in your cage yourself. They're easy to open.

We do the pick-a-pearl every trip. Here's our two latest videos:

This is my daughter's pearl cage. We bought it ahead of time on eBay; it is silver-plated so it was inexpensive. ($10ish). She wore it empty to Epcot, and we sat at a bench outside the pavilion to put it in.

IS the experience more fun at Japan than in Disney Springs? I've done DTD in Anaheim but this is the first time my daughter will be old enough to really take notice and if it's better at EPCOT we'll do it there.

We did our in the Japan Pavillion. My daughter picked two oysters; one with twins and one with a singleton. It was so much fun for us. The girl who did the ceremony was great and made a huge deal out of getting twins. It really was a whole experience. We did not get cages or get the pearls set. An excuse for another trip? Sounds good to me. ::yes::

I believe it's 45 for all sterling chain and charm for carriage. Silver plated chain and sterling cage is 30.

If it's $45 for the sterling silver chain and carriage I think I'd purchase at Disney so my girls can pick it out there.

We just did this with DD on Christmas Day. Pearl was $17 after tax and the chain/cage we picked out was $52.08.

I'm just not sure the stuff at pick a pearl is sterling silver. I truly don't think it is.
They may just be plated if that's the case she has the carriage for like 8 dollars.
