How much are music lessons in your area?

Just curious. DD's each take a 30 minute piano lesson a week. I pay $20 per half-hour - $160 a month for them both. I know in my area that is sort of upper mid-range for cost. I have a relative who teaches in the North and she charges only $11 per half-hour and that is quite the norm in her town. Anyone else?

My son takes trombone lessons and my DD took flute lessons at the local University from music major students. The cost is $10.00 per hour/$15.00 for 90 minutes.

My husband teaches guitar. He charges $17.50 per 1/2 hour and $35.00 per hr., but he goes to THEIR homes to teach.

My DSs took trombone, piano, and trumpet lessons through a local university. They ran per semester and over the summer. The current rates are $96 for 12 lessons. This is an increase from when they started. I feel they were worth it. The college students really "bonded" with my kids and it was nice to have that break between semesters. They get free lessons through their school now, so we gave up the university lessons.

Wow! I am feeling very fortunate. DS12 takes Trombone lessons and DS9 takes French Horn lessons from our retired band director for 1/2 hour each week and I only pay $7 for each of them. I'm only paying $56 total a month. I had no idea what the going rates were.

We pay $26 for a 1/2 hour piano lesson; the teacher comes to our home.

And for my son's violin lesson, we pay $15 for a 1/2 hour lesson; he goes to the teachers house (she's a college student majoring in the violin).

My sons oboe teacher is $35 per hour.

$30 per half hour for voice lessons. That didn't last long though. She treated me like a novice to music. I had to buy a music theory book and learn about quarter notes and bass clefs...... It didn't matter that I was a classically trained Soprano with lots of experience. I played along, until she started spending our lesson time grading the workbook. Add that to spending three full lessons doing nothing but lip trilling and I was getting upset. We didn't even select a song to work on for 6 weeks. That was that. I was prepping for an audition, so I ended up prepping myself at home.

DD's viola lessons and DS's trumpet lessons are between $20 and $25 a half hour.

I charge $20 a half hour when I teach brass and percussion.

we pay $10 a 1/2 hour for guitar lessons for my ds. I think thats the going rate around here for most lessons.

It costs me $13.50 for half an hour through the school system. Or my daughter can share with one of her classmates and split the cost.

I looked into drumset lessons for my son outside the school and was quoted $40 an hour. Needless to say, we didn't go that route.

I charge $18 a half hour for woodwind lessons in a studio, but piano lessons at that studio are around $22.

Ds just started guitar lessons here and they are $20 for 1/2 hour. I can't remember what we paid before we moved, I think the same.

I am paying 13$ per half hour electric guitar lesson for my son, the other music shop here charges 15$ for the half hour lesson.

Hi, powellrj! I'm in Indy and that would be low if it were for piano lessons. Couldn't speak for guitar, though.

I'm in Indy. I charge $38 an hour ($20 for 1/2 hour) for woodwind lessons. I typically go to the student. DS's violin teacher is a bit higher, but she's in the Indianapolis Symphony and can therefore command a higher price. These are pretty typical for our area. There are some school connected set ups that are cheaper, but I think they are subsidized.

We paid $10 for half an hour of percussion lessons for our DS this past school year.
