How much are bike rentals at the Fort? Do we need locks or do they come with locks? We are staying in a cabin.

About $7.50 per hour or $21 per day (not including tax) this past March. They don't come with locks but if you park it around the back side of the deck at the cabins no one will probably even notice it. :surfweb:

PS-I remember before the evil golf carts proliferated like cockroaches that you could rent a tandem (double for you youngsters) bicycle and DW and I got one and rode it around the Fort in 1988. Didn't see any this past trip.

PPS-even if you bring your own bikes they have a great air pressure hose at the Bike Barn you can use.

Do they have any type of weekly rental for the bikes?

Unfortunately no, daily rentals only.

Also, unless they have changed in the past couple of years, you have to turn them in by 5:00 or 5:30. We now bring our own cheap Wal-mart bikes and bought the "Bones" carrier for our van. Best investment we ever made.

I think that Disney is missing a major opportunity here!

My family and I visit a resort in North Florida every year where bike riding is the primary means of transportation. They have a huge fleet of bikes there that they rent out for $10 per day (24 hours), and they have three day, weekly, two week, and monthly rates too. At those prices, it is tempting to just rent a bike, rather than putting on the bike rack and hauling a bunch of bikes.

At FW, they charge $21 a day, and you can't even keep the bike overnight! Since there are no overnight rentals, there are no weekly rates. How many people do they think are going to lay out $21 a day to rent a bike? And not many folks are going to do it more than once. I mean, you would have to get back and forth to the bike barn, stand in line, etc. Who wants to deal with that? Plus, you can buy a bike that is equivalent to what they rent for about $100.

On the other hand, if they made the cost more affordable, I would probably be interested. Yes, it would be a huge hassle for them (people not returning bikes, bikes in the lakes and canals, people riding bikes to WL and beyond, etc. etc.) but I think there is a lot of money being left in our pockets. Disney usually does a better job getting it!!

I agree with you, T-C-D.

I think a deposit held on a credit card would ensure bikes get returned promptly!

When we stayed at the WL four years ago, they had a family plan. This included rental for all members of your party(up to 5)..of pontoon boats, sea sprites, and bikes. We rented bikes at least 3 times..and we were five people. My kids (3 of them) rented the seasprites almost every day..and the entire family rented the pontoon boat once. It cost us about $200.00 for the weekly plan. We figure we came out way ahead if we had rented all these things by the hour or half hour X's the amount of days we rented X's 5 people.
I'm not sure they offer it any longer(I don't think so)..we will be there in May and will find out for sure. I believe that FW also offered this plan at one time, and discontinued it. Guess they figured we weren't spending enough money, so back to renting each item individually.:rolleyes1

I don't see why weekly would not work. At Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, they rent daily, weekly or length of stay. Granted, it is a MUCH smaller resort than the fort, but perhaps they could put satellite rental shacks in other areas. Biking and camping go hand in hand! That being said, we are buying our own and will bring them and we'll have locks too. maybe THAT is why they don't bother with the bigger plans, people mostly just bring their own.

Does anyone know if they have child seats on any of the bikes? When we camp at FW, we always bring our own but next week we are staying at OKW instead of FW. No trip to WDW would be complete without a visit to the Fort so I was thinking of renting a couple of bikes while we are there but we'd need a child seat for our 16 month old granddaughter.
