How much annual leave do you get a year.

I get 4 weeks vacation which can only be partially carried over. But as a supervisor they let me carry more so right now I have about 6 weeks 'in the bank'. I work in a hospital and am responsible for seven day coverage in my department. And when no one else can cover that leaves me. No special work schedule for me. We get 11 sick days/year and non supervisors get paid for some after accruing 33 days. As a supervisor I get to accure without getting paid for non used days but that came in handy this past May when I had a hairline fracture of my ankle and was out of work for 5 weeks! Too bad I couldn't squeeze in a trip to OKW!

I also work in a hospital. I have been there almost 10 yrs. I have changed job titles so I was able to qualify for more vac. We get 12 sick days, 2 pers. 2 fl. hol. per year. Now I get 4 weeks vac. I was at 3 weeks before job title change 2 yrs ago.
DH worked for Home Depot until 10/2001 and got 3 weeks vac. Then he went into his own business. It helps but when a job is running behind, it can cause us to have to push off a vac or have him under a lot of stress while he's away and anticipating problems when he goes back. He is due to start a "real" job again after our vac in Aug. Hooray!! A regular paycheck every week but not as much vac again. Probably only 2 weeks and not until he completes his first year. Thank goodness for side jobs to pay for any unpaid vac. time the first year.

DW gets 46 paid days including holidays after 31 years service at General Electric.I get 31 days for 20 years of service at the the plant I am employed at.

I get 25 vacation days, 3 personal days, 15 sick days & 12 Holidays a year. DH gets 3 weeks vacation, 5 sick days, 2 personal days & the week off (shut-down) between Christmas & New Year's with pay.
This allows us three trips + Memorial Day weekend each year. Next trip is August 24th & I can't wait!!!!

I'm a teacher so I get the "regular" school holidays off; around 10 days for Christmas, 1 week in Feb, 1 week in April, the state holidays, and 10 weeks in the summer. HOWEVER, I teach summer school each summer because we've never been able to live without my salary for 2 months. I get 2 weeks at the beginning of the summer and 1 week at the end (when we plan our Disney trip). I guess that's 6 weeks when it's all figured out, plus state holidays. I also get 15 sick days (which carry over) and 3 personal days(which do not). I am able to take long weekend trips using personal days and sick time because I have a very understanding boss who understands my Disney obsession.

DH gets four weeks, 2 personal days, and some sick time. His major complaint is that we must vacation on a set schedule during some of the busier times of the year. He'd love to be able to go at the beginning of Dec. or Jan., but my schedule won't permit it. We actually take separate trips for different things. He takes a golf trip with his dad, and this year I did the Food and Wine with my mom. Someday we'll find someone who actually wants to watch our 2 kids at the same time so DH and I can take an adults only trip together!

Dw and I are retired. She from teaching school and myself from privately owned business. So we get 52 weeks a year but don't have enough points to spend it all at OKW....darn it.

The good thing about my job is that I only work 3 days a week,Tues,Wed & Thurs so I am off for 4 days f-su..I get 4 weeks paid vacation time plus all the holiday's that fall on my days that I work, 6 sick days that I usually call in "sick" in Jan or Feb for the 3 days and make our winter trip to WDW..We usually go down about 3-4 times a year..my husband is self employed and can go any time he wants to go but he waits for me..LOL I really believe that our DVC has paid for itself 100 times over as we have had it since 97 and really have used the heck out of it..should have done it sooner..we are all so lucky and the stupid part is no one gets "it" but us.. have great vacations and see some of you in NOV..Marianne

My DH gets 2 wks vacation, but since he works 7 days on and 7 days off we are able to travel more.

I get 6wks vacation, 7 holidays.

My DH and I work for the same company. We get 4 weeks vacation time (that took twenty years to get) , five sick days, and we aso get off form Christmas to New Years. We usually go to WDW the second and third week of Dec. My favorite time to be there.

I get 15 days vacation, 2 personal days, 4 summer days, 2 floating holidays and 6 paid holidays.. The floaters and holidays cannot be switched around, but the others can be used whenever you want.. It never seems to be enough though.. Sick pay here, as I am salaried is 'unlimited' so to speak, but we have short and long term disability so if it goes beyond 3 days we need a 'note' (never been enforced) and longer they would switch us to short term disability. I rarely use sick days so it has never been an issue... The downside is none of our days can carry over at all. It is strictly use them or lose them on or before your anniversary date..

2 weeks is the "standard" for US employees...at least to start. I blame England for sending us the Puritans and their annoying work ethic.

I'm lucky...I get 4 weeks and will get another in 2 years. Wifey-poo only gets 2 accrued vacation per year. We're going to see if we can just take unpaid leave, but the position is a union job...if they do it for her, they gots to do it for everyone.

I've never understood how the Europeans are able to get as much time off as they do! (Jealous!)

I've been self-employed for the last 3 1/2 years, (so's my wife), so we take off whenever we feel like it. I've never added it up, but I'm sure it's 4-6 weeks a year. Lot's of half days and long weekends, too.

We make 2 trips to WDW a year. Our kids are young (3 yr old DD and 18 month old DS) so we can go to WDW anytime of the year (when it's less crowded). Of course, that won't be possible in a few years when they are in school. But I guess we can always take them out of school for a trip (but that's another discussion!)

This is an odd question for me. I work a schedule of seven days on the road, then seven days off at home. Technically I get two weeks vacation per year, but I get the seven days before, and the seven after sort of making it three weeks in a row, twice per year. In a way you could say I get 26 weeks off per year, but I don't look at it that way.
My wife gets about six weeks vacation per year.

I agree in that I think that a lot has to do with how you have been with a company. Most Americans start with 2 weeks. I work for the former sponsor of Illuminations , and currently I have 2 weeks vaca. Next yr I will be with them for 5yrs which will entitle me to 3 weeks vacation. I also get:

6 core holidays (where every business is off.)
5 floating to take when I please, one per qtr with the other day beeing the day after Thanksgiving.
I think 4 personal days
and 20 sick days.

It is all use or losewith the personal and sick being a revolving calendar. If I took off today, I would get this day back on this day next year.

I may not be 5 or 6 weeks, but I can't complain!!!

I work for a non-profit organization and can earn a maximum of 120 hours of vacation leave and 192 horus of sick time. We do get 11 other holidays during the year and a flex day, which our office usually uses for Christmas Eve. Once you max out, you don't earn anymore and you earn more hours each month the longer you work there. I usually don't have much problem being at the max, until my next trip to WDW.
DH on the other hand is "self-employed" sort of. When he works it is usually 2 weeks at a time work and then 2 weeks off. We try to schedule trips during his time off but it is not always predictable.

One day we'll win the lottery and not work at all.

My wife and I get 3 weeks a year (10 hours per month) with the ability to bank up to 6 weeks (240 hours) during your first 10 years. After ten years the banked allowance goes up to 8 weeks total and you accrue (12 hours per month). We also get * hours of Sick Leave per month with no limit on how much of sick time you can accrue.

All in all I feel this is a generous plan although after reading some of the replies, I am not sure how good it is.

Oh well it never leaves enough time to get my fill of Disney Magic : > )
