From the Imagineering Field Guide to Epcot: "the outer sphere is made up of 11,324 individual triangular panels made of an aluminum alloy, each one custom fit"

The panels are made of aulcobond. Which is a pannelling very similar to what we make signs out of at work! Very cool!
