How many times did it take for you..

I passed 4th time - although I always think that no. 3 didn't really count because someone smashed into the back of me whilst I was stationary and they re-booked my test so it definitely wasn't my fault.

Just a thought about failing. Me, my mum and sister were all having lessons with the same instructor and we all failed 3 tests. We changed instructors and all passed first time

1st time for me too, don't know how many lessons I had. I left learning to drive quite late as I was 35. Best thing I ever did though as it gives you so much freedom and this year I am going to drive in Florida for the first time:scared:

Good luck to your dd for tomorrow, Hil :thumbsup2 .

I passed second time around when I was 18, athough I should really have passed first time - I'd had enough lessons to know what I was doing, but nerves got the better of me.

Younger dd passed both her theory and practical tests first time. We bought elder dd 10 lessons for her 17th birthday, but she never really felt confident and hasn't taken her test (she's 22 now).

2nd time for me as well, took it in 1988 as well so no theory test. I would hate to have to pass it now though.

1st time for me, I didn't have many lessons but they were well spread out as I was a skint student so it took about 10 months from my 17th birthday!

I've been driving since 1982 and no one has ever mentioned anything to me about a test:eek:

:rotfl2:

I passed 2nd time aged 17.....I hated driving though, and hardly ever do it these days. I agree that tests were a lot easier when I did it......all those years ago :rotfl:

I think it must have been easier in 82. I bought an old mini and went out with friends who had passed their test, had one official lesson and then passed my test first time. Think I would probably struggle now

It took me 4 times before I passed!! After I failed the first one, I just wanted to give up, but my Mum kept me going with lessons. I must have had 50-60 lessons, as my instructor kept me doing the same manoeuvre for about 4 lessons, before he taught me a new one. I'm sure it wasn't for my benefit, he just saw the £ signs flashing!!!!!

With me it was complete nerves every time. :scared1:

OK, no making fun guys... 5 :scared: To be fair they weren't all at once, I started and stopped a few times with lessons (started at 17, passed at 20/almost 21!)

Passed 2nd time still 17, passed bike test 2nd time failed at 17 passed second time around when just turned 31, two years has past since then and never been on a bike since only think I redid it to prove to myself that I could plus DW doesnt want me to have another one. If I had passed at 17 I probably wouldnt be alive now as I was an absoloute nutter on a bike at that age and can well understand why they have restricted the full direct acess test to enable you to ride any size and power of machine to people over 21years old, perhaps this should be raised to 25 years given the sheer power of sports motorbikes that are now capable of 0 - 60 miles per hour in under 3 seconds, i.e comparable to a formula 1 car and much faster than anything like a porsche.

3 times but I've an excuse for most of them :rotfl2:

1) Learnt in a brand new instructors, lesson before the test he gets an old car with a knackerd clutch FAIL

2) Ditched the instuctor, took test in my own brand new car, (2 weeks old)
Get to the test centre notice slow puncture, had to dash to garage to get it inflated, by this time I was nearly late and not in a great mood FAIL

3) Passed 3rd time.

Passed on my 4th attempt!
Test 1) turned right when I should have gone around the island first, so nearly had a car come at me:confused3
test 2) Apparantly I drove too close to the left side and held up traffic
test 3) completely botched my reverse manouveres
test 4)success!!!

I have to say that on that 4th test I thought i failed early on, so was probably a lot more relaxed driving round, was so suprised when he said I passed.

I took lessons in my early 20s as all my friends were doing it. I passed first time but I hated driving, never even bothered sending my licence off to have it changed over and never got behind the wheel again.

20 years later and life had changed so I found myself really needing to drive, as I hadn't sent my licence off I had to start from scratch but I kept putting it off so DH bought me lessons. With age ;) I was so much more confident behind the wheel but of course sod's law it took me three times to pass:headache: It's been almost a year since I've had my licence now and I absolutely love driving, will use any excuse to get behind the wheel:drive:

I passed my 1st time, about 6 months after my 17th birthday.

I passed first time, after 18 lessons at the tender age of 38:thumbsup2
