Just wondering how many mix it up and go to Universal, Seaworld, etc. while staying at the DVC. How easy is it and would you be able to take up a week doing this instead of going to the Disney parks?

In 2005 we went to Sea World and last year we went to Margaritaville in Universal. We are always glad to return to our "home" though.:goodvibes

90% of the time we go to Seaworld. The Kids LOVE it!

While we have WDW PAPs we also get AP's to 1 other area park each year, alternating between them (Universal one year, Sea World the next, thinking about Kennedy for this year).

For us, we typically travel about every 3-4 months so it makes sense. The APs for the other parks are usually reasonable. SW is around $95 per adult for the year & Universal's Power Pass (calendar year not 365 from purchase plus blackouts) is around $120 now I think. When you consider a 1 day, 2 park is about $86...

I don't thing I could ever go a week without steping foot in a WDW park. Even if we just go in to eat or watch Wishes... or just stroll.

Orlando has a lot to offer & being DVC has made it easier for us to experience more of it (more trips, slower pace).

Once I arrive on Disney property, I don't leave, until it's time to go home. ;)

We always stray off WDW property while we're there. We haven't done a Disney only vacation since.... 1992 maybe?? Disney is still our "main" place, and we will stay on Disney property for visiting Sea World, but for Universal, we make it a point to stay atleast one night at the Universal hotels.

I don't know if we could be in Orlando a whole week without some time in Disney!

I've visited other parks like Sea World and Universal while on property. I however have not done this for a week straight. While staying at OKW I met a couple that owns DVC, but only goes to Universal, so I guess there are people out there that do it.

DH and I spent a week staying on WDW property without visiting a WDW park. We did other FL attractions such as Universal, Kennedy Space Center, Daytona. We did play miniature golf one day, though, at Fantasia Gardens.

We go to Sea World on every trip, Busch Gardens on most of our trips and Universal on a couple of our trips. We have also gone to Discovery Cove.:thumbsup2

It's easier for us than some since we drive to WDW. :)

We are from the West Coast, CA and do WDW every other year. So we typically stay between 8 - 10 days. We usually take at least one day, sometimes two to get off Disney property for day trips. We've done Busch Gardens, Kennedy Space Center, Daytona, Universal & Tampa Bay Devil Rays pro baseball game. WDW is the best but there are some other very good attractions outside of "The World". Gives us a chance to see a bit of Florida as well.

We have done this before and are doing it again in October. We didn't wish to shell out big bucks for tickets this year so we are opting to do Universal instead. Their new ticket deals make it a LOT cheaper than WDW. We have 1 day left on our 10 day hoppers so we are going to Epcot for F&W Fest that day. Then we are getting our MK by doing MNSSHP one evening (trying to get in around 4 PM they say is the norm). Then 2 days at Universal. Some down time this trip too so we are excited.

We did just change our reservation from BCV to OKW to save points. Since we are only doing Epcot one day we didn't feel like we needed the close-to-park proximity. And we actually added a Friday night to our reservation and still saved points. So we probably made some waitlister really happy by cancelling our BCV ressie.

We go off-site every once in a while, so we wind up at US/IOA about every two-three years and at Seaworld about the same. With ME, we now only get a car when we plan to go outside WDW. This year we might try that Arabian horse thing (I've been holding DH off on that for years).

During our trip in October we will be visiting Seaworld, Discovery Cove, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. I love Disney and staying on Disney property. I also love some of the other attractions which Orlando has to offer.

For our next trip in June (8 nights) we plan to spend 1 day at the MK and the rest at the water parks, Sea World and Kennedy Space Center. Now, that we own DVC, we don't feel the need to visit a park everyday of our stay.We plan to go to Orlando in June to relax, ironic isn't it? ;)

I'm glad it's a good option, and others have easily done this. We love the Disney parks, but I think it's good to have some variety. I also like the idea of taking advantage of the ME from the airport to make it more hassle free. Plus I'm sure why a rental company would be more than happy to come drop off a car at the resort for a few days we would need it to venture outside Disney property.
