HOW MANY SECONDS does it take for your home resort "standard view" studio

to be all booked up at the 11 month mark? As a BLT home owner looking at the coveted New Years Eve 2018 (Dec 31, 2018) it seemed to me to literally take an INSTANT before there was NO availability for the standard view studio today

Seems like supply has stayed the same but demand has really increased at several of the resorts with the standard studios going first.

:earsboy: Bill

With walking so prevalent for NYE, is it possible that the 12/31 rooms were already gone but the unavailability was just not viewable until 8am when the 12/31 check-in date became bookable?

Sounds like the most likely theory for New Years Eve. It just....^#@##ses me off :badpc:

IMO, it is possible that the system works that way, but I really don't think so due to the patterns I've seen elsewhere.

Since the RAT only shows us that at least 1 villas is available, it's more likely that someone got that last room at one nanosecond after the window opened. Unless someone here has an inside source to the programmers, we'll never know for sure.

OP - Hope your waitlist works (or that you booked a 1 bedroom as a back up.)

I’ve seen future days show as unavailable, so I doubt the rooms would show available unless they actually were. It is is race at 8:00:00 to get one of those rare rooms.

I assume they are all taken by the CMs before anyone can get online to book.

If I am reading the chart correctly, there are only 30 standard view studios. All of them are lock offs, so you are competing with people who want a 2 bedroom also. Anybody who wants to stay all Christmas week already has the room booked before today. Add in that not many DVC members actually want to spend the extra points on a Lake view room. I am actually surprised that there was any availability this morning at 8am.

If you think that is bad, there are only 16 theme park view studios. All of them are lock offs also.

There are dedicated 2BR's in both standard view and TPV at BLT though so while someone might be competing to get a lock-off I think it's more the competition for studios. BWV though is tough as all 2BR's there are lock-offs so if you are wanting one you definitely are competing with those who want studios.

Can you share a link to this chart? TIA!!

Exactly.

The finger is frequently pointed at "walking", but I'm just not sure how many people are actually bothering to do that. The night of December 31 has been bookable by owners for 6 days now. Anyone with a check-in date of December 25-30 has already had access to that night. Even though availability was showing at 7:59 this morning, it was likely very few rooms.

What's clear is that demand exceeds supply. When that happens, there are always going to those who lose out.

I did not get what I wanted at the beach club either.
Thank goodness we own at more than one resort so I was able to get AK instead.
I was just saying a few weeks ago that I never have a problem at 11 months for New Years Eve and this year I did :sad2:
I put in a waitlist for Beach but I do not think there is much hope.

Economy is good, taxes are down, people have money to spend on travel.

At 11 months, we're all competing with fellow owners and that pool has been unchanged at BCV for more than a decade. But when members are traveling more and borrowing points, reservations are harder to come by than years when finances are tight and owners are banking.

So at 5:30am today (Feb. 1st) I decided to see if anything opened at BWV for 12/31 since I was unable to snare a 2BR yesterday for a 12/31 check-in date. Lo and behold a 2BR PV was available for the 5 nights I wanted (12/31 - 1/5) so of course I grabbed it. What are the chances someone would cancel a studio for 12/31? But evidently at least one person did late last night or very early this morning and I'm not complaining. Of course I had wait listed both standard view and boardwalk view so those wouldn't have triggered anything for me, and I'm sure that studio would've been gone anyway by 8:01am today. Further proof that 'stalking' gets better results than wait listing.

People could be walking for marathon week. Even more popular than NYE! Since Jan 1st was not booked they could have cancelled what they had that included NYE and booked a new reservation starting Jan 1st without having to wait for MS to open.

Amazingly I was able to snag AKL Value 1 BR for new years eve and beyond. In fact I made a mistake my first try, and went back and had to enter my info again. So there was availability in 1 BR Values for at least 60 seconds past 8:00am. By 8:05am when I had completed everything I checked again and there was no availability.

I did a practice run all Sept for Boardwalk. Each day, it showed that there was availability for the following day. At 08:00 on the dot I was ready and kept refreshing. I was never able to snag a room for the whole month (granted it is highest volume time of the year). Always was chasing the carrot. Too many people walk and it is not fair to the people who dont walk reservations.
