I have an annual pass expiring on January 14, 2019. So I wanted to book a week somewhere between Jan 5 and Jan 14.
Did that. Started my room, a BWV standard view on Jan 5. No problem. Than I changed my mind after I remembered FOTA started Jan 12 this year.
So I wanted to put more of my nights later. I cancelled the reservation. Reason for this was partly because I decided to do a split stay, and use up some BCV points, do a night or two in Clearwater, and then come back to BWV for the last weekend of my pass and what I believe will be the first weekend for FOTA. Plus, I'm just not a walker. Last thing I want to do is hang on the phone for DVC, hoping to add a night. I was so happy when we got online booking!
So, now I am definitely contending with walkers because there's one of those marathons going on!!!!!!
These events are what is making more and more DVC members book at times they didn't use to book DVC rooms. Disney is trying to fill regular rooms and the side effect is that Members are filling low point value seasons as they were set up, because they want to run marathons, go to festivals and participate in the same events used to prop up the regular room inventory. Food and Wine in the fall combined with parties and marathon. January marathons. Guess when I mostly go - Late October/early November and January/February. So as a BWV owner, and a BCV owner, I go through this all the time.
I've never been completely shut out of a room I've wanted. I may not always get it the first try, but eventually I get it. This morning I started my BWV check in right in the middle of the marathon and the walkers - Friday, Jan 11 - BWV studio standard view. I didn't walk it. Checked last night - rooms were there. Was ready at 7:45am and watched the time. By 8:10 the rooms were gone - maybe earlier, I didn't look until 8:10am, because after I got the room I was busy updating my spreadsheet.
I'll actually be there earlier that week, using up some BCV points - and BCV is wide open. All days available. BWV has both standard and boardwalk view with gaps.
The thing to remember is there are only so many owners at each resort. Some of you who find this annoying should have been around for the Millennium...now that was a crazy time trying to get a room! Haven't seen anything like it since then.
