How many ponts is enough?

We have 520 points and keep thinking of adding. Though due to the recent 'downgrades'. I think will just keep it at that for now. Maybe when the DVC dream team wakes up to selling what we bought 10 years ago, we will add on.

Enough? Is there ever enough? We are at 325 points right now (and waiting on a 25 point add on) which gets us to 350. We are always borrowing and and cant seem to get back to a level playing ground.

We like to take family and friends (there is 5 of us without them) and usually stay in larger accomodations. We tend to go for 9-10 days at a time so we eat up points very quickly. I would think that if we can get to about 475 points we should be able to cover are yearly trips.

Yes, we have enough points - but that is quite a few 910 spread among OKW, HH and Vero. Unfortunately we have found that as our daughter has grown up and especially since starting high school we aren't able to travel as often as we used to - I used to always borrow. :thumbsup2

As an outsider, looking in DVC, how do I determine what would be the right amount of points for my family? We are a family of 6, myself, DH, DD10, DD8, DD6, and DD3. We have been going 1 time a year for the last 3 years now. We typically stay 5-6 nights and go during Thanksgiving week, or the week before X-mas departing on the 24th. We are renting points for our Thanksgiving trip this year, and staying at OKW, in a 2 bedroom. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

We also have 900 and are quite happy. We were always borrowing before and now we don't have to. We are free to go on cruises, try adventures by Disney and see the world.

Go to the DVC Points Charts at the top of the page and put in the time and type of lodging. That should give you the number you need for that time of year. Remember, OKW always requires the fewest.

We currently have 375 points all at BWV. I plan on adding 75 pts when KT go on sale. That should be enough points for me and my DH (we don't have any kids) atleast for few years.

You'd plug in your travel dates in a points calculator and see how many they take.

For the times you mentioned, it would take you as little as 205 points to as much as 237 for a Thanksgiving trip (depending on whether you left Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving). Christmas week takes as much as 225 points. This is at OKW. Other resorts would take more points.

460 here - (We started with 200 points at OKW in 2000 added 60 more and then bought 200 at BCV).

We are definitely good for now. If we do not become snowbirds a few years from now (dh has just recently become disabled), we will add a few more points or buy a different timeshare to compliment our DVC.

We bought just enough to go to WDW every two years for two weeks at a time. Then we own Marriott timeshares to see other areas every non-Disney year.

We may buy more points as I get closer to retirement, but we don't need them now.

There may never be enough points :lmao: :lmao: We have 405 at AKV and are waiting for ROFR for HHI for 170 pts and I know that I still probably have to add more.

With three kids I only have the option of 1 bdrms - if I was able to take advantage of a studio then I may have enough pts. ;)

6 months ago I did a poll of the same question. Out of 450 DVCers responding, the average points owned was 338.

We have 240 and I'm happy with that for the moment.:goodvibes

We like to go 2-3 times a year and with 150 points, traveling at non-peak times, and us only being a family of 4 (two of which are pretty little) it WAS enouigh. Plus, my parents have points so if they went with us, they liked to use theirs to get our rooms. So that was usually one of the three times per year- so it worked o.k. But now we just added another 160 because the reality is that we don't want to always count on my parents points and as the kids get bigger or if there are more of them to come, we want to still go for the same amount of time each year, just get bigger rooms. That should be good for us for a couple years.....til I can convince DH that we need to go 4-5 times a year! :lmao: MY eventual goal is to end up with 550-600 points! :cool1: I would like to be able to go ALOT and when I get older and retire, be able to go for a couple weeks at a time!

For us the "right number of points" seems to be just a few more than we currently own. Logically I know that we really don't need another 25 points this year, but I won't stop my wife if she really wants some more. :rolleyes1

I hear ya! Same here...!

We have 300 at VB and 200 at SSR, so 500 total. I think if had 700 total we'd be set for a while.... ;)

We are a family of 5, so up until the AKV 1BR with additional sleeper chair, we needed to stay in 2BR units. With the kids getting larger (DS13, DS11, DD6), I don't think we could even stand to be in a 1BR for a week now that we are used to a 2BR! We also travel primarily at school breaks, so that eats up points pretty quick. So no, we do not have enough and am looking forward to picking up some points at KTV once they go on sale.

One of our favorite things to do is to get the beach cottage at VB in summer; that also wipes out a fair amount of points. And this year we cruised on DCL with points - not the most economical use of points, but it was the only way we were able to afford the cruise this year.
