How many ponchos?

I'm finally starting to pack; I didn't think this time would ever come. =) Me, DH, & DD (4) will be heading to the world for 6 nights and 5 park days. How many ponchos do we need? I bought 6 today with the intention of using 1 as a stroller cover if we did get caught in some rain. Do I need more?

You need 3 nice ones for you guys. One for the stroller like you said is a great idea.

Then I like to take the dollar store ones for Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain. So if you want to do that it would be 6 more but they are really cheap like $2-3 for all 6. That way you can just toss those after use.

I also do not carry my nice ponchos with us unless the day is calling for rain (I usually go Nov-Dec so not rainy season.) This is because the better ones are VERY heavy in a backpack. Of course if you have a stroller this might not be an issue for you.

This will be the first trip for us in a long time without a stroller. So we will have camera bag and backpack to carry around.

If you have a decent quality poncho, you only need one each. We've had the same Disney ponchos for years. The cheap ponchos from the dollar store are likely to tear before you're finished the first wearing. I tried them once and they clung to me like a dry cleaner bag. Ugh.

you only need one per person.
and yes definitely one for the stroller.
but i would not get cheap dollar store ones.
they truly are cheap quality.
i would suggest purchasing them from disney world.
and i would not even purchase any until you know its likely to rain.
my latest disney poncho has been through 7 trips and its still going strong.

I agree with one decent poncho per person, and maybe one for the stroller.

Don't buy the cheapest piece of crap that you can find, but you also don't need to shell out huge bucks for world-class rain gear. My decent ponchos cost maybe $5-$10 each and have been used on several WDW trips and campouts.

Agreed. I go for portability and bring a handful of the cheap Dollar General specials and throw them away each day. ;)

Agreed.

We took $1 ponchos the last time, and it started pouring. Forgive my language, but those things were just crap. They were not easy to use, uncomfortable and didn't cover up what you needed them to cover up. We abandoned them and bought Disney ponchos.

OMG - it was like night and day. They were easy to use, easy to wear and kept the rain from going where you didn't want it to go. I dried them off after that day and took them home with us. They will be packed for our next trip.

... and they're cuter too. ;)

It rained a ton when we were there at the end of September. DH doesn't like ponchos but my DD10 and I wore our Disney parks ponchos whenever it rained. DD3 wore hers in the stroller and we just draped it over the tray and kept the canopy up - our Graco stroller dried pretty quickly after each storm. At night we parked the stroller in front of the a/c and hung the ponchos up to dry thoroughly. We did take large Ziploc bags to keep the stroller basket contents (i.e. camera!!) super dry.

Those ponchos were some of the best money spent on our trip! They are still in perfect shape after several uses a day on probably 5/7 days. No regrets! :)

I agree, buy good ones! We use the Disney ones and they last for several trips. We only need one per person. It rained a lot on our trip in sept so we just brought them with us in a cinch sack type backpack.
