How many points to buy?

The points can be used anywere..just have to use within a year. He said 300 are bankable and 300 are not. The year begins April 1 every year. I booked using the developer points today, I was told to make sure they use those first. This is for GCH in DL, were we had our reservations already for our anniversry trip. We took that money for downpayment. The April date works fine with our travel plans. We plan on going back to DL a few more times this year. I understand that DVC resorts are best value, but long term this seems to work, considering we will go more now. We have already planned a December trip and march trip. If we go to Fl we will plan far in advance, since we are in Ca.

I am pretty sure we made the decision that works for our vacationing style, I hope. We will also be using the places in Tahoe and Hawaii. We like the flexibilty.

We were given april or june year starting options.

ok so I am confused.. the sales guy said that it didn't matter were the home resort was, jsut that we would have more preferncethere and that we can use our points anywere anytime. He said the tax rates are lower in FL and that we can use our points now and when the resort opens next year that is were we have our home resort. he said that when grand califonian goes on sale we will have an option to buy into it as well. We are going to DL in July and the hotel alone is 1400, so we think it would be wise to invest that money into a plan we can use. I am fine with going to DL a few times a year and FL every 5yrs and some crusies.. what am I missing?

Our sales guy also told us it doesn't matter where you buy it. There are places all over the world. By no means do you have to stay at the place you are buying! You could by AKL and never ever stay there - it doesn't matter. You use your points anywhere!

Yes, you can use your points anywhere . . . in theory. I've booked almost all the WDW DVC resort, the DCL, the Disneyland hotels - all on my OKW & SSR points.

HOWEVER, if someone wants to get into a small resort (VWL, BCV or the future GCV) on the 7-month window in those resort's busier seasons . . . well, just read the threads on this board and see how many people are a bit steamed that they can't get what they want.

Our sales guy also told us it doesn't matter where you buy it. There are places all over the world. By no means do you have to stay at the place you are buying! You could by AKL and never ever stay there - it doesn't matter. You use your points anywhere!

A very wise choice! I'm considering doing the same for BCV if I fail to get the GCV contract this year. Either one is a small resort and I'm gonna have one or the other!

... And why we did an add-on last week at the VWL The 11 month booking advantage is soooo important at the smaller resorts.
