We are looking into buying a membership at DVC. We haven't been able to find any information on how many points it takes for a 3,4 or 7 day Disney cruise. Does anyone have this information and also, if anyone has tried to use points for the cruise and how smooth was the process? Thanks

My DH and I went on the Western Caribbean in 2005 in Sept. We used 298 points for the both of us. I know alot of people do not like to use points for cruises but it worked for us. The process was very smooth. I just called Member Services and that was it. You have paperwork to fill out for the cruise before you go but we are going to do a cruise again in 2007. Of course I am also going to be adding on points. Hope this was helpful.

Cruising takes a TON of points, but actaully booking the cruise is really easy.

Welcome to the DVC FORUM!

The number of points required for a cruise depends on -

Number of adults and the number of children (and their ages) in your party
Cabin category
Season / Date of Departure
Length of cruise (3, 4, 7, etc.)
Itinerary for the longer cruises

For example, here's a link to the 2006 chart for the 3 night cruise to the Bahamas:

Here's a link to the 2007 chart for the 7 night cruise (Western Itinerary):

Perhaps that will give you some idea of what to expect.

I was wondering how is it handled if you don't have enough points to book the entire cabin? For example we are 2 adults and 2 children and I only have enough points for 2 adults and 1 child. What would I do, borrow from the next year or could I use cash for the rest of the reservation?

You could pay cash for one person or you could borrow the points - your chocie.

As long as you book at least one person in the cabin for points (I'm pretty sure it has to be an adult, but am not 100% sure on that), you may pay cash for anyone else in the same cabin.

The cash price is the one DVC negotiated with DCL and so it may be more or less than the cash price currently being charged by DCL or a TA for the same cruise.

A Vacation Club buddy called Friday to see how many points it would be for a Cat 6 on the 10 day Mediterranean cruise and it was 553 per adult and I think 287 per child :rotfl2:

I figure if we save points for about 8 -10 years we are good to go!

Cash would be about $4200 per adult, so for this one you're better renting points or selling one of your kids (just kidding, don't call child services on me).

When using points to pay for a cruise, do the points cover things that are extra when paying with cash--such as taxes and port fees?
