How many pins are comfortable for a child to wear without the lanyard getting heavy? We will have a total of 6 kids although I don't believe the youngest will be trading - the older ones are 4, 5, 5, 8, 9. I was thinking of buying a lot and giving each one 5-6 pins - is that enough? I already have 8-9 that I would be willing to trade that I have bought over the past several years.

It's hard to say, because every kid tolerates a different amount! Of course, the dont have to wear them all of the time, and some people buy a thing that hooks to their belt loop so it is not on their neck. I would say 4-5 each.. and do buy them ahead of time (ebay?) to save some $$!

MY DS is 3, and I bought a lanyard, then cut it doen to his size, and put new velcro on it.. he wears 6, but does not wear it the whole time!

We just had our first trip and our two oldest, 7 & 9, pin traded. It was such a great conversation starter and time filler. Both ended up seeking out a certain theme pin.

They each had about 6 on their lanyards, but didn't wear their lanyards all the time, found them uncomfortable, carried them in fanny packs.

They wouldn't put their favorite pins on as scared they would lose them.

I bought a couple of lots on ebay. For our kids it wasn't about the trading for value but finding ones they liked. I could care less, as long as they were happy!!

have a great trip.

I did this as a surprise for my dd this past trip. She is 6 so I started her off with 6 pins & one for good luck. You can do 1 pin per year of age and then 1 for good luck if you want. She was allowed to trade any that she wanted to & she could use her souvenier $$ to buy more if she wanted (she did not). She wore the lanyard off and on, it annoyed her on some of the rides as the pin backs are bumpy LOL

We pin traded for the first time last October. My kids were 7 and 5. I bought 5 pins for each of them online. We quickly realized 5 was not enough and had to buy more at the pin shop at DTD. The kids really got into it and can't wait to do it again in August. My kids didn't wear the lanyards for very long, too heavy, itchy, hot. I just carried them in my bag. The cast members that traded with the kids were awesome. They make it very friendly and un-intimidating (is that a word?).
